Dyson DC17 conversion to UK spec- electrical advice needed
« on: January 25, 2018, 11:53:01 am »
I have a DC17 I am trying to convert to 240 volts.

I found that the brushbar motor from a DC21/23 motorhead is similar to a DC17 one! Just the spindle and cooling fan are different and thus will not fit. I can't find a way to get the spindle off.

I was wondering what would happen if I get the armature from the DC17 (120V) and put it into the 240V one? Would it still blow up or run okay? I can't seem to think what makes the two motors have their voltage limits

Any help would be muchly appreciated

I have a DC17 I am trying to convert to 240 volts.

We looked at this idea with ours.

And decided it was a non starter and got instead one of these.

That looks good! Probs more convenient than my bulky yellow one lol
I've got two mint 17s, I use a transformer with them and it's all good

With my third one I decided to convert it to 240 V as a project, not sure of an armature swap will help tho

you would burn it up very quickly count on the armature the segments and the thickness of the winding

Ah, I'm not quite sure how motors are with th voltages and stuff, allni know is there's magnets that spin the armature at whatever voltage is provided through the carbons
