Sebo X4 cuts out
« on: March 01, 2018, 11:14:24 am »
I have a 5 year old Sebo X4. When switched on the motor will start for less than a second then switch itself off. Then maybe it won't be able to be switched on until left for a while.

I have checked motor brushes which are good. Any further advice on what else could be the problem or how to troubleshoot?

Any red lights on? If not, wiggle the power cable first.

Thanks MVacs. Rebuilt after checking brushes and its working normal again. Told my wife I'm a genius of course but really I have no idea. See how it goes...

OK turns out I'm not a genius... The problem is back.

Problem is indeed in the cable as you suggested MVacs. Wiggle cable next to handle will make the sebo on and off.

I have taken the handle apart and cannot see any obvious loose/stressed connections. Removed a load of dust from it taken all connections apart, cleaned them up, put it back together, problem still there. Is there something obvious that usually has a problem here? The switch itself I guess is the only thing I can think. Can't see how to remove it...

your problem sounds like a broken wire inside the main cable itself ?
If you wiggle the cable and it works, it shouldn't be the switch at fault as the cord grip prevents any stress on the switch wiring or the switch itself.

Remove the cable from the handle assembly, cut off 12 inches and rewire.
Ensure it isn't plugged in when you do this.
If that doesn't sort it then it could be the connections on the end of the handle assembly

So it was definitely cable, I could see with multimeter. Cut off a length and now it tests perfect.

New problem: The screw that holds the handle to the aluminium shaft threads into a bit of metal that came loose and dropped into the shaft. I've carefully pulled the pieces apart, making enough slack by taking off all switch connections, rescued the metal threaded piece no problem I can get all that together.

But now I see there is a loose black wire not connect to anything just protruding from the plastic handle. The other end was connected to the live terminal of the switch. Seems to be a bit random, can't see anything it should be connected to?

:snivel:  Have a look at Beko's strip down topic >>here<<.

If you give up, new handle/flex assemblies are >>here<<.

Thanks @MVacs, that strip down was super useful and interesting. That black wire just hooks over a bit in the plastic part of the handle. The guy doing the strip down describes it as some kind of earth but I'd be very interested to know how that could be since its not connected to anything. It has a couple of somethings embedded in the wire with some heat shrink over it.

I enjoyed the comment from Ryevac in the strip down thread about idiot customers losing the nut into the handle!  :-\

All back together again and working anyhow. Thanks all. Sorry no sales for you MVacs I'll certainly use you for parts in the future.

probably a capacitor or a hi impedance resistor to eliminate static i suspect.

Oh yeah i forgot to say, remove the screw with the handle tilted downwards and that prevents the shim nut falling into the handle - sorry...  ;D
