A fair old while ago now, I won this on ebay for £15 not far away

Miele Revolution 5000 S556 - Stripdown and Refurb

A Miele Revolution 5000!

It was quite battered underneath

Had all it's 3 small tools

The exterior shell was a bit dirty, and the writing worn quite badly

All the controls for this vac are on the handle, all you get is the main on/off button and cord reel pedal

The control centre

Hose was quite worn too

Electro Plus head even more so!

I pulled this out without even removing the base plate

When I collected it, the guy said he had fitted a new bag for me. My heart sank a little bit, but amazingly it was a genuine bag! Which is probably why the inside was so clean

The carbon post motor filter seemed in good order, however it also had the Active Air Clean filter fitted over that that comes in the box of bags... it was quite black, but a fair bit of that could be the carbon from the post filter itself

However, it was not without it's flaws, mainly the usual Miele Revolution one...

A stuttery hose connection. Still, it was useable with care, Charlie was certainly intrigued

So, eventually, it's time rolled around!

I started with the wand

However, I could not get it apart, and didn't want to force it and break it, so I dismantled the latch instead

I took this inner spreader piece out, which was a mistake as it was a complete sod to get back in...

Wand abandoned, tome for the Electro Plus (it was hammering down with rain when I got this in from the shed so it was a bit damp)

Baseplate off

The business part is underneath another inner cover

A big square of lead helps weigh the head down so it always flips around to the correct orientation

The wires to the brushroll motor run underneath this little guard part

Motor lifts out with the wires free

Is a DOMEL motor. Never heard of them before tbh

And can be found by undoing the screws

The 2 wires are easily removed

The locking latch is removed

And the head is apart! Onto the troublesome hose now...

The tools end splits apart with the removal of many screws. The rear piece has 2 screws of its own, and the main housing wont come apart without this bit removed

The Anti-Static rod pops out

Then the inner suction tube lifts out to reveal the power connections

The hose itself has a spacer ring to meet up with the inner suction tube

These are the contact rings for this end of the hose, that get caked in crap and become intermittant

The wiring and PCB lift out

This is the control panel. 3 buttons and lots of LED's

The 3 buttons and the tiny springs underneath drop off (literally, be careful! They are also angled with the cover piece too, throws you for a second)

The cover piece is printed on the back, not the top, which makes polishing it up a heck of a lot easier!

The button holder pops off the PCB

These are the contacts that run along the rings on the hose

That end done, it's time for the machine end, and this was the end with the problem (I've had a few fixed now, and it's always this end, it's the strain on the hose that bends the contacts, so pay attention if your reading this for a fix to the cutting out problem, this might save your bacon!)

These two screws come off first, but don't try and remove anything yet, just the screws...

Round the back, are these two screws. Remove these

Then pop the cover off the hose and slide it up and out of the way

Then, the plug part pulls out and away, revealing the hopefully utterly bogging slip rings

We'll clean this up later! Onto the main machine now

The tool cover is gently removed to avoid snapping the hinge pivots

One last shot of the decals, as these are going! No point in saving them

And split down

The dusting brush was particularly full of fluff

That was easily fixed though

The main reason I dont think this filter needs replacing is the housing underneath is very clean! You can also see the pivot points that need popping out to lift the bag door off the main machine

Free both sides and the bag door lifts free, the connector unplugs itself

The plastic part that holds the hose entry port down unscrews

Now this caused issues later on, because this is how the bag latch spring was sat, which isn't correct...

Off came the latch anyway though

Hose port cover falls out now

Hose port itself pops out of the holding frame

This spring clip braces the plug for the hose to stop it being pushed back when the hose is plugged in

The plug itself lifts off of this bit

Bag fill indicator out

Tool door latch lifts off

Tool door latch itself pops off

Now, the cover for the wiring that runs through the bag door can be lifted

It all runs to this hinge, which is also a plug

To remove the wires, there is a plastic peg that holds the terminals into the housing

Once removed

The wires pull gently out

I did give them a damn good check over because I initially thought there was a broken wire, but they were utterly fine.

The hardly used bag the seller fitted can be removed now!

Pre motor filter was a bit grubby, but seen worse etc

The bag holder pulls out

We move to the back of the machine now, and one solitary screw holds the rear panel on

The double connector plug does the rest, and the panel pulls up and off

Under the panel we find the switch and circuit board that controls everything (on the non electric models, the adjustment potentiometer for the manual knob sits on this. remove the 2 screws to lift everything out as one unit

This is a different PCB to the usual models with adjustment knob though

The LED diffuser sits above/below (depending on your view) the PCB

The two pedals snap onto the middle part with these clips

Each pedal has a spring underneath it

This model has the automatic cord rewind, which is operated by this rod here

The visible knob on the pedal pushes this toothed part, which moves the other end backwards and forwards and pretty much just keeps the cord reel button pushed so it always reels the cord in

The outer trim piece pops off the rear panel (again, printed underneath which is mucho handy!)

This is the reset button for the lifetime filter, it lifts out

Time to move down a level now, and remove the motor housing cover

Much wear from the cable is visible here sadly

This is the 'standby' switch, which sits in the parking bracket and turns the machine off when the floor head is docked (the heavier than usual Electro Plus doesnt play nicely with it though and jams it up...)

And then just lifts out

I always check the cable where it enters the reel on Miele's, have seen lots and lots where this is broken, torn up and have had one in for repair that was blowing the owners fusebox where the live and neutral were making sweet love...

This one is fine however

But just to double check, 2 small screws release the reel sides, allowing for repair or replacement of the cable if needed, and a good de-fluffing

This tube provides some sort of pressure equilization somewhere (I have no idea...)

But, next out is the motor! I know what that does...

The motor fan is very very clean on this, so I didn't bother removing it to clean, which is a usual Miele trick, especially when pattern bags are used!

The motor and bag compartment seals can be removed now

As can the motor sound deadening

The furniture guard comes off now, but the side parking slot screw needs to be removed to achieve this

Once the bumper is off the parking slot housing pops out

The 3 wheels pop out of their holders

Then the holders unscrew from the main chassis, and the 2 halves can be popped apart

APART!

The hose can't be washed annoyingly, what with the wires and electricity running through it

And that's it for tonight, we shall carry this on with the back together-ness very soon, for I am off to bed! NIght
