And as per the service guide, the felt washer goes in first
Followed by the steel washer
Bearing Race
with lots of grease. Then the outer bearing shell, with a bit more grease
That all held itself together nicely whilst I reassembled the polished up carbon brush holders, shown here slid into the outer insulator
And inserted
The motor wires were soldered onto the plug pins
And the coil was fitted, the coil wires clipped around the carbon brush holders, and the smeggy part of the spring brought inside out of view and secured with the fibre clip

This allowed the armature to be fitted, and the remaining top bearing parts to be fitted, and the securing screw screwed in
The fancase bearing got filled with nice fresh oil and fitted
As did the carbon brushes. This is the hack I mentioned earlier, the brush holders just clamp in with a grub screw, and can be moved about. So I moved them as tight to the armature as they could go whilst clearing it whilst spinning. With the use this machine will now get, it'll be fine for a fair few years yet!
Fan spacing washers fitted
Fan fitted
Then something that might make some collectors cringe, the motor was sat upside down in the chassis to hold it steady, and the finest bathroom silicone sealant bought from under the sink, and a nice bead laid down where the crusty old seal once sat
I left it for 15 minutes to go off a bit, then stuck it down and screwed it up, the cleaned the excess off! Perfectly sealed now, and unlike Tiger Seal, which I use for Junior Firewalls and such, should this motor need to come out again in the future, the sealant will just peel nicely off (plus I don't have any tiger seal, it goes off really quickly and I don't use it enough, hence the small squeezy tube I can keep in the house which makes it last a bit longer...)
The front plate was refitted with the splt pins, and a few small blobs of the sealant, mainly to hold it whilst I turned the machine upside down to open the pins out!
The motor wiring plug was re-assembled

And fitted into the handle bail (where it promptly kept falling out, because it relies on being plugged into the handle and the bolt tightening the bail up to not fall out...)
Bag flange bolts fitted
Rear wheels refitted with lashings of silicone grease, it runs so smoothly now, it barely turned before!
Found the clip that holds the motor wires to the bail
Fitted the bumper, after feeding it many coats of Chemical Guys Trim Gel
Front wheels refitted
Exhaust diffuser fitted
And the motor and chassis is done!
Turning around from taking this shot though, and I was far from done!

Time for more of that fancy new fangled PVC insulated cable to be stripped from the outer shell
And wired up into the plug at the base of the handle
Next, the bag spring and a length of shoelace was put out
One end of the shoelace was riveted around the bag spring with some nice metal finishing rivets I got from our local cobblers (I took my own 875 bag spring in and the guy was amazed at what I was trying to do, top marks to Mr Mend shoe shop in Thame!)
I teased the spring support tang out a little bit from the handle
Fitted the spring, then closed the tang up. Then, the plug and wires were inserted up the hole, and secured with the fibre pin
Up top, ring terminals were crimped onto all the ends of the wires, and the switch was wired up
There seemed not to be any sort of cable clamp for the mains flex, and again, knowing the careful retirement this old girl will have now, I tightly fitted 2 stout cable ties to the mains flex, which should be plenty fine enough!
The earth wire (and this location is mentioned in the service manual) goes over the lower switch housing screw hole

And after the wire moving it's position 34 times it was together!
Then I fitted the handle back to the bail and snapped one of the tabs off the wing nut (sorry Stu), luckily this was the only thing I broke...
Wound the nice long (and safe/modern) flex up
Brushroll now, and nice new bearings replaced the properly sticky and tight old ones
Brushroll got smashed together and fitted
Both base plates went on
I gave the tool adapter Hooverlux donated a whirl too (Stuart - A Numatic cuff fits into the end of the tool converter, should be easy to make a hose for demo/fun purposes! Or the hose from your 119 may fit, can't remember what style the end fitting is that goes onto it's tool converter)
Test fitted onto the 'blowing' position too
Anyway, enough larking about, time to do some ironing!

To put some creases back into the bag! This is my first time ironing one tbh, and it took it very well, even the decals did not seem phased, although I turned the heat down for that bit and did that from the rear (oo-er)
After all that re-assembly, the poor girl was covered in my paw prints, so I got my metal polish out, which isn't terribly ace tbh but did a good job of cleaning the already polished metal up nicely
I tied the bag strap onto the bag after passing it through the roller, and fitted the roller to the handle as well. I left it for Stu to tension it properly, as I would have done it for 'use', but it needed to be done for display, and it needed to come off for shipping. I do believe he found a wizard fix for it too!
Then, out came some wax!
The horrid modern plug got changed for a beautiful Bakelite example which suits the thing so much better
Some equally retro cable had been fitted before it seems...
The correct plug just makes a machine I think!
However this next part brings the old girl smack bang into the 21st century!

And sod all the HEPA rubbish, it stops the bag needing a full on clean out every time it's used! Will keep it utterly spotless now! (assuming Stu has one fitted when he's been playing with it...)
Then the wax got buffed off, and we can bask in it's glory
Marvellous! But how does she perform?
Not a valid youtube URL
Very, VERY well! Massive thanks to Dorian from Hooverlux for lending a hand, and Stu for sending me such a lovely beast! I do like the old ones, they come out so well!
Thanks for reading! Hopefully Stu can put some pictures up of the old girl now in her new home in the Museum

It's an awesome machine that is now in one of the glass cases in our shop. Sam and Dorian did a super job!
It's one of my favourites in the collection.
Our wizard fix on the bag strap is here:
You can’t get the cord that holds up the bag on a vintage 1929 Hoover 725 any more (unsurprisingly). But it’s nothing a carefully sourced piece of strap and a cross stitch won’t fix. Even needlework here at Manchester Vacs. B&Q the tape is from. 87p a metre.
Olga has yet to do a floor test video with it.
