DC39 with poor suction, around 50% loss.
« on: June 24, 2018, 08:56:41 am »
hi all,

My DC39 Animal has lost half its' suction!  It used to be lounder and when the head was on the floor the brushes would spin.  Now there is no enough suction to cause them to spin!

I have tried cleaning the filters and the 'bag' unit that collects the dirt.

I have double checked all the hoses, including the pipe in this video.

No good it still cannot suck enough.

Any suggestions on what could be the cause?  Could the motor have died?  Should I just throw the thing in the bin?

I could follow the break down instructions on this thread, but I don't really know what I am looking for that could cause this.

thanks

When you take off the head, how is the suction at the end of the pole?

It may be the vacuum driven head thats faulty.

when i take the head off and hold the pipe onto the palm of my hand it pulls on the skin of my palm, pulling it into the pipe.  So there is certainly suction.  Its just I dont know how to measure whether its the correct amount.

Interestingly when the vacuum pulls the hand entirely over the pipe so that no air can get it, the vacuum makes a sort of pulsing sound coming out of the main body.  Almost like there is some sort of valve in there that is flipping open and closed when the vacuum cannot pull air through the pipe.

thanks

The relief valve you describe when you block the suction is normal. Your skin being pulled by the suction is also what you'd expect.

So we have established suction is OK, so I'd suggest your head needs service or replacement and the poor performance will be for that reason I'd suggest.

great! it seems to have worked.  I tried a different head (the smaller on that came with it) and that seems to have worked!

Thanks a lot, I will source a replacement full size head for it.

thanks again

Simon
