Turbo blown!!
« on: August 12, 2018, 07:21:46 PM »
Well that was exciting! My turbo just blew up! Yes I am aware this is a vacuum forum. No i'm not talking about a car.

So..
I connected all up, my turbo attachment to my dc04, fired it up  a very loud whirring noise and then a massive bang with pieces of plastic flying everwhere!  :o

Never ever heard of this happening before! It was crazy! Luckily I'm ok with only a tiny amount of blood on my arm, lucky though with the way that turbine exploded with its shaft and itself flying everywhere along with all the casing!

I've had a fan blow before! I'd glued it up once years before, and it broke again so I had it back for another bodge. I was filming it actually, and was demonstrating how much faster it spins if you block up the suction hole to the head and it ramped up to full speed and shattered. Stopped filming and told her unfortunately it was too far gone so she bought a new head!

No niether have I.
Shocked me to death when I heard a loud bang and felt plastic flying everywhere, at first I thought the motor on the DC04 exploded, when I finally opened my eyes after turning the machine off I noticed the entire side of the turbo tool was missing and broken!!

Wow! I was preparing to do record a video in a few weeks time showing the turbo tool, how it works etc, how it performs on different machines and so on. I guess that shall have to wait now!

It was the tool you commented on, on my instagram when I asked about the bearings and you said about them being them brass sleve things. ila_rendered

Somehow I get the impression that them being damaged caused the blow up, I was just about to click buy it now on some new bearings, brass sleve? whatever it is that I found matching on ebay from the part number on them.
