I’m fixing a very old DC24 that has a faulty PCB. The brush bar goes round but, as soon as you put it on the floor it stops!..ii
My question is, can you replace a PCB board without the reset button, for a PCB board with a reset button fitted?..Does it make any differencr?..The reset buttonless PCB boards are difficilt to get hold of!..

Yes they are interchangeable.

With the non reset button type you need the little grey oval piece of plastic that replaces the reset switch, and vice versa.

Thanx for that. The problem I’m having is that the roller bar spins whilst in the air, as soon as you put it on the floor, it stops spinning!..
Surely that discounts the motor because that is spinning as well, it can only be the PCB Board surely?..

Not really, you need to meter test the motor too.

How?..As I said motor is spinning whilst in the air!..How do you meter test it, it’s either getting voltage or it isn’t?..

No, a faulty motor can cause the PCB to trip. Why we have multimeters.

sounds possibly like yoke cable to me, whip side panel off and look for cracked cable outer.
But there again friction on the beater bar and loading the motor could be the problem, hold machine on the bench / table with the head hanging over the edge - switch on and whilst beater bar is spinning put the palm of your hand offering resitance to the beater bar ( without the head moving at all ) if ok, then slowly tilt the head side to side, if ok move the head up and down, if it stops / starts then it could be the yoke cable at fault.

Its not a worn spindle is it? Dose the motor actually stop, no noise from it?

I have never had a toothed belt fail on a 24/25, 99% of time for me it is head motor or yoke cable

For the brush to stop when it hits the floor is unlikely to be the PCB although this doesn't rule it out! It could be a number of things.

*Internal cables - are prone to snap and break, will cause the brush to stop in certain positions, for example it may work in mid air but on the floor the cables are bent in a different position so not making a connection and not working.

*Worn motor - Worn motor or otherwise end of life could struggle to run and may well spin brush in air but once resistance is present (such as brushroll on carpet) it no longer can handle and shuts off

*Worn motor spindle - Worn motor spidle could mean that althogh the motor is good and running, once the brushroll has resistance (like touching the carpet) it could start to slip.

*Loose belt - A loose belt would be the same as a worn motor spindle - works in mid air, but once it has some resistance, will start to slip

*PCB- Unlikely but could be a component failing that causes the motor to not run as effieciently as it should, unlikely but possible.

Thanx for all the useful replies guys!..

Just to give you an update, I went ahead and replace the motor!..This didn’t cure the fault because as mention above the brush bar spins normally on laminate floor. But, as soon as you attempt to hoover on carpet, the brush stops spinning!..
So I guess, I’m probably looking at a worn brush bar spindle or a damaged wiring loom on thr side by the wheel?..

It is possible it's the PCB, it just wasn't the most likely thing. Normally you can see burns on them if they are duff.

Yoke a possibility and rarely we see the red and white wires in the head with an intermittent break.

Trial and error now really.
