DC40 ERP Head Voltage?
« on: June 24, 2021, 09:12:23 am »
I've got one of these in with a brushroll not turning. Assumed the usual yoke loom failure, but after testing, it's not that.
However the voltage at the head is 386V DC. It should be about 320V. Is this within tolerance, inaccurate multimeter, or an indication that the PCB is faulty and supplying too high a voltage?
The brushroll motor appears to have a damaged commutator, and will need replacing anyway, but is it possible this is due to the over-voltage?

Its only a start up voltage rather than a running voltage from what I understand, so I don't expect its too much to worry about. It could be the case the meter might be a bit out.

I'd swap the motor and see how it runs.

Hi
Is that the correct voltage feed to the head motor 320vDC, have checked voltage at the 2 pin socket output and only getting 7V, would you say it could be a PCB fault ?

Cheers

Yes, it should be around 320V DC. PCB or yoke loom most likely. Bear in mind that you must have the machine reclined in order to get a voltage at the head socket.
I retested the voltage the next day and got a reading of 336V DC, which is within normal range.
The issue with mine was the brushroll motor itself: upon stripping it down, the comm had disintegrated.
