Right, time for some reassembly!

The bin came up very well. Possibly because the dirt doesnt really swirl around, more just fall into the bin

And gets fitted to the motor. I'm still not sure if this was some sort of sound muffling effort (which doesn't work) or just to stop all the crap going into the motor...

The outer belt end rubber seal goes on now

Then the little random pipe got fitted and taped back down. This goes nowhere, and the machine has no bag full indicator, so it is a bit of a mystery

And got wrapped in the hopefully flameproof foam

The spinal cable wraps around this moulding, which seems pointless as it's under no movement whatsoever that I can see

This rubber bung goes over the hole in the casing for the mains and bowden cables

The little leak off pipe got fitted

The filters fell straight out but the metal part needs to be there

Onto the brushroll housing, and I fitted the furniture guard on

Underneath, the front wheels clip into place

And the spring that stops them flopping right out is fitted

It's time to refit the powerdrive gubbins now, but first I popped the cover off the motor and took the gears out

Cleaned it out a bit, refilled it with grease, then gave the transfer shaft a good coating in silicone spray and fitted that to the motor mount

Fitted the motor to the holder

The pivoting inner cage drops in now, with a squirt of slippy on all the contact points

Now it's time to build up the wheel itself, so I started by giving my shaft a good greasing

And built it back up, giving all the bearings a good coat of thin grease and working it in, the thing was damn hard to hold afterwards!

It all then drops into the housing

Everything then got another dose of silicone spray, being careful to squeeze the friction pads together so it didn't seep in to those

It's buttery smooth now, you could almost hear it over the main suction motor before! The cover was screwed on hastily as it's very easy to drop the assembly out of the housing otherwise

The foam dust cover for the pivot arm goes on

And it's all bolted into the main chassis

The recline switch firms the wiring loom for the little motor, so it goes in next

With that all in place, the bowden cable was fitted, and every moving part given a squirt of silicone and the pivot clamps fitted. It no longer grinds as it gets pivoted!

We move hastily up top now, and wire the mains cable and switch and spinal cord together, and fit the bowden cable through the lower handle

the broken screw mount was glued in, and the switch assembly screwed down

Then the final post filter is fitted

Now at this juncture, I did test it, and amazingly the motor does run! Not brilliantly, but considering the armature came from a blown motor, after a clean up and nicer carbons it does run OK with just a slight hint of smell here and there. Not so good was the Bowden cable, I had tried to tape it together, but to no avail and it did nothing.

So, I went into town and went to the bike shop. Once the spotty oiks in there stopped laughing at my intended use, they sold me a new bowden cable

Which I fitted, which involved dis-assembling the machine again a bit. It came with one end crimped

It's MUCH thinner than the original, being made for bicycles

The motor end took some thinking about, because I had no crimps for it, and this being a proof of concept, didn't fancy buying 20 or so to try, so cable ties to the rescue

Surprisingly yes! Seems the powerdrive gearbag doesnt need much movement so it gets away with it!

So there we go! Ideally it needs another motor, which is very easy to find as it's the same as in the bagged versions which seem about as popular as a bout of the clap, but for now, it works OK!
