Hoover Turbopower 3 U2876 - Refurbishment & Restoration!

The Hoover Turbopower 3 came along in the mid 1990's, to sort of replace the Turbopower 2, but didnt really add much bar a very long hose, which admittedly is very good, and transforms the machine!
But apart from that, is just a Turbopower 2 really! And mine was a very filthy Turbopower 3 when I first got it!
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0AGXNg9_4E
And after a while, it's time rolled around to go under the magic fixing hammer
Drop the cable
Remove the slightly battered hose
And remove the ends
The rubber latch that holds the hose to the bottom of the cleaner to stop it falling over when using the tools is branded Hoover, which is very surprising for this time period!
Tools off
And the back is bare now
The handle is held on with one screw

And can be removed from the cleaner
The additional hose holder that holds the much longer than usual hose unscrews too
And the handle top pops off
The bag door is removed now
It's quite filthy!
The bag door seal pulls out
Nice little Hoover logo stamped in the moulding
And this date wheels shows 1992/3, which is about right as the whole cleaner itself is a Turbopower 2, and would have used the same mould, only the hose and extra holder are additional!)
The filters weren't in too bad of a shape

Next was to de-wire the top, and that all sits under these two screws
Tadah! VERY similar to a Purepower under here, which itself is a fairly facelifted Turbopower 2!
The bag full light slides over the bottom of the red cover and clamps itself together, and the switch pops out
The switch cover pulls off
Someone has tried to clean the old girl up before (Probably it's old owner, who was a collector called Allan who sadly passed away early last year) as there's polish residue everywere!
The mains cable is held in with this clamp
And with the mains cable unscrewed and removed, we can go no further up here, and need to travel down a bit!

This lower trim piece pops out to reveal some VERY long screws
With the two LONG and 2 shorter bottom screws removed, the motor cover lifts off
On the motor cover is the post motor filter sat behind the removable grille
And inside a foam diffuser
It's all very filthy inside here!
But enough of down there, we need to go back up and remove the two screws from inside the bag compartment, and lift the bag compartment itself out of the cleaner!
The bag holder comes out with a single screw
B is for Beko1987!
Bit emptier now!

We can remove the clip that holds the spinal cord in now!
And unplug it from the pressure valve for the bag full LED to get the cable out of the way a bit
Behind the bag compartment hide the screws that hold the tool holder on
The hose clip snaps out of the main holder
Time to get the motor out! The fancase suction duct lifts out
And the air pipe for the LED indicator and top rubber seal all pull nicely off
Pressure valve is free now too, 133 mbar, whatever that is!
We can move down even further now! The height adjustment knob needs to come off first though
Then over she flips! The blockage inspection cover lifts off

This sticker was nearly off so I helped it along!
The locking latch pops off the clear cover
Baseplate next
The Activator was in very good condition!
Metalwork out
And stripped apart!
Centre wheels out
These metal plates are what the activator end caps slot into and are screwed into the lower chassis
And finally, with 2 more screws, the hood can be removed!

Which is a year older than the bag door!
The release pedal pops out of the hood, no Purepower broken-ness here!
The motor can now be lifted out!
The motor in this one is utterly perfect in every way, the fan was even clean so alone it got left I'm afraid, no motor magic hands today!
The machine is suddenly alot lighter though!
This tiny rubber bung sits in the motor locating channels
This part sits in the bottom chassis and forms the other part of the release mechanism, it pulls out
2 pivot brackets have the 2 remaining parts apart, and the wheels come off with circlips and axles in a nice easy way!
Height adjustment slider
This plate sits in the top half of the cleaner, and forms the motor holder AND the part that the recline latch latches onto to hold the machine upright

This small pipe makes the suction appear by the brushroll, the hose plugs into it normally!
Cord grommit removed
The hook the hose rubber band is hooked onto removed
Then it was all washed, dried, polished and ready for re-assembly!
The apprentice was out helping
Yellow hook back on!
Internal duct back in
Motor end plate back in
Height adjustment slider in

Rear wheels now! The axle pushes through the chassis and wheel. However, this circlip
fits here
And after dropping it 76 times it pops home! The recline latch pops in next
Little rubber bung fitted
Time to marry up the lower and upper chassis! On one side this metal bracket holds them together
On the other side it's a boring plastic part!
Time to drop the motor in
Clip the release pedal into the hood
Which is a bit shiner now

The furniture guard is fitted to the hood now
Now we can fit the hood to the machine
Time to fill in these holes now!
Activator holders in
Centre wheels in
Activator re-assembled
Which now spins buttery smooth!
Fitted with a new belt
Baseplate refitted

Blockage cover fitted
The suction duct from the motor got rubbered up
Air pipe fitted
And fitted to the machine, and the air valve wired up
The tool/hose holder is fitted
Then the inner skin is screwed down
Internal diffuser came up nicely
And then got hidden from view forever more
Some brand new filters were obtained

Shiny
Handle re-assembled and fitted
Hose assembled
And with the tools fitted, and a bit of a wax and buff to get my grubby prints off it, we have this!
Which looks lovely! And it worked really well afterwards!
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=el9H6PG7DDc
I even used it for a month! (Pre refurb actually, should have put this at the beginning of the thread!) It was really nice to use, tbh identical to the Turbopower 2 I used in 2017 but the longer hose made it alot nicer to use!

The lovely Mr HooverLux (
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMYshVt0Nxxh3xSedKlHwJw
has this now, I gave it to him earlier in the year, along with the Dirt Devil featured at the start of the above video! He was very thrilled!
Thanks for reading!

I know! Must admit I'm not particularly fond of the turbopower 2 but they don't half work well when in decent fettle!
