Miele Cat & Dog TT 5000 (S5260) - Stripdown and Refurb!
« on: December 16, 2018, 12:16:56 am »
Crikey, 2016 I picked this up, I had the Xantia at the time! It was a facebook selling post, for a free Miele that kept cutting out.

Before you could say 'free bar' this happened

ila_rendered

A massive bag of tools

ila_rendered

Many filters

ila_rendered

And a very sorry looking vacuum cleaner! I had a quick peek inside before I drove off and saw exactly what I was expecting!

ila_rendered

One tool was in the tool holder

ila_rendered

And the floor tool was pretty well used

ila_rendered

But, free! Here it is next to my Mums then-daily Miele

ila_rendered

With the tools fitted

And showing the dreadful state of the plastics

I filmed the before video

And then because we fixed it there and then, gave it to mum! Was a great upgrade to her old S424i which got refurbished here - https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,3037.0.html and did her well for another year. I always said that when the box of bags I initially got for her ran out, I would refurbish it. They ran out in July!

So, during August, I sorted another vacuum out for mum to use

And got it apart

ila_rendered

The tools end came off the hose

ila_rendered

Suction release valve pops off the handle grip

ila_rendered

The wand was washed as one, I didn't fancy breaking it and having to buy a new one, their expensive!

ila_rendered

The floor tool was next, and the one main issues I find with Miele is how the floor tool soleplates rust!

ila_rendered

A fair amount of fluff was built up inside the head

ila_rendered

The one remaining lint strip was removed

ila_rendered

The springs that help the head change mode pull out of the fluff

ila_rendered

The brush layer lifts out, and the part that clips the pivot to the main head and the pedal can be lifted out

With the rear roller wheel removed the rest of it falls apart too

ila_rendered

Onto the machine now!

ila_rendered

Shows what a lovely hot day it was when I did this! -3 right now writing this!

The tool door lid pops off

ila_rendered

The front edge trim is removed

This is the spring that makes the tool door pop up when the latch is released

ila_rendered

The small tools were split

ila_rendered

Miele's always work in layers, and that was the top layer. Time for the next

ila_rendered

The cover for the motor exhaust diffuser pops off

ila_rendered

And the diffuser itself comes out, this can be washed with the rest of the machine

ila_rendered

The bag door cover lifts up and pulls off it's latches

ila_rendered

It's utterly filthy! We also need to undo those two screws as pictured, which releases the hose entry trim

ila_rendered

The bag full indicator lifts out then

ila_rendered

And splits apart easily for washing

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

The bag door latch pops off it's 2 locating tabs

ila_rendered

And it's spring comes off

ila_rendered

Time to move to the back now! Under this piece of rear trim

ila_rendered

Sits 2 screws

ila_rendered

Those, and 2 more at the front make layer 3 lift off

ila_rendered

The pedals themselves release via the 2 tabs under each of them, but do this from underneath, they snap if you lever them from above!

The bag door hinges can be removed from underneath the bag door

ila_rendered

The speed control fascia and knob pops out

ila_rendered

The knob pops out

ila_rendered

The 2 pieces of trim that help the machine stand upright pull off

ila_rendered

Post motor filter and it's cage come out

ila_rendered

Pre motor filter (which was replaced not long after I got the thing with a spare one) out

ila_rendered

From here, the whole wiring loom lifts off

ila_rendered

And pulls off the holding cage

ila_rendered

Some more screws later, and the motor cover/middle chassis lifts off the lower chassis

The pre-motor filter holder slides into this middle layer, removing it shows alot of caught dirt!

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Bag holder pops out

ila_rendered

Bag door seal off

ila_rendered

Bleed valve off

ila_rendered

And apart

ila_rendered

We can see the motor now

ila_rendered

The cord reel lifts out, along with it's rubber air tube

ila_rendered

Motor out

Surprisingly, the fan isn't too bad, the built in overheat protection saved its life!

ila_rendered

Fancase seal off

ila_rendered

Sound deadening out

ila_rendered

Time to remove the wheels! Pop the wheel off, then unscrew the metal bracket to remove the wheels off

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

And we are apart!

ila_rendered

Whilst everything was drying after it was washed, I whipped the motor apart anyway

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Popped the caps off the bearings and re-greased them

ila_rendered

Cleaned the thermal sensor

ila_rendered

And washed the fan, just because it's always rude not to when its out

ila_rendered

All was re-assembled

ila_rendered

I then got the polisher out

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Which bought them up really nicely!

ila_rendered

Everything was then laid out

ila_rendered

And the wheel brackets can be refitted

Getting there

ila_rendered

At this point, mum went away for a long weekend, so I grabbed the other tools that she was using with the AmazonBasics, as it's 35mm too, and got them apart and washed

ila_rendered

Hard floor brush first, 2 screws under here

ila_rendered

And the retaining piece comes away
ila_rendered

Tool lock apart and off

ila_rendered

Wheels out

ila_rendered

Brush strips out

ila_rendered

I spent some time and de-fluffed them, they were full, much softer now!
