MTR240KK Stockists please
« on: December 18, 2018, 11:27:36 pm »
I am looking to buy some MTR240KK  DC07 motors and have asked LM Electrical (Qtex) however they tell me that they do not have any in stock at the moment so my question is does anyone know of anyone that stocks the MTR240KK at a realistic price? At this point I am not interested in the MTR99 but if I cannot locate any MTR240KK motors I may have to use that one.
Any ideas?

DC04 and DC07's for me and the occasional DC14.

The MTR240KK has been discontinued. Sales were not fast enough to warrant the increased price a new batch would need to be. Any that are still about carry a price premium.

The MTR299 is the best you will easily get now.

Yeah as above the MTR240 was discontinued sadly a while ago. A much fave between the Dyson refurbishers I belive.
On that note the best available would be the MTR299 which I heard many people dislike.

To be quite honest I've been using the same motor for several years when I need a new motor on refurbishment. I can say I've always used the MTR299 and its seems a good motor. I've been running one personally now for 4 years and I've had a machine come in for service that had an MTR299 fitted at least 6 years ago. Still in good condition and working to this very day! For their price you can't argue and the ones I've used have definatly earned themselves their keep!

There is a history to this motor situation that is touched upon in this article: Cheap Dyson Motors - 150 Reasons Not to Buy One

The 240KK was done by Qtex for the more discerning among the trade. The 299 was the cheap one for platform sellers and those on a budget. However, over time the 299 got improved to the point that the difference between them was negligible.

The 240 was discontinued not only because they were more expensive, but as a result of the 299 being much better, many of those who previously bought 240s had switched to 299s so demand was reduced.

We have tried the Kenley motors and those from other sources that are available. The MTR299 is now the best one out there in our opinion. What we sell >>here<<.

Yep, I've never had a 299 kill itself. Seen one (that I got in for repair) blown one of its coil wires off, so I replaced it jsut because it was £50 to me... But I've never seen it since.

Ive had 299s last few weeks or in one case a few days, but most are still going strong, they must have been improved or they would never be selling like they now do.  I remember a sales leaflet from Q saying they were made in a number of smaller factories in different places, quality control must have been a nightmare. 240s were all made in the same place.

I've had many conversations at Q about 299s, 240s, quality differences, etc. When 240s first were discontinued, we had a hand in convincing Q to bring them back. But a year or two later and they've now gone.

I can still get them if I order 1000+ that's enough for the factory to do a small run, and I thought about doing that. But the quality of 299s is now good enough that there is no need. The failure rate of 299s now is close to zero.

It was daft them having 2 types, the cost difference wasn't much.

Quality difference was huge though, and as the above linked article says, the pile em high and sell it cheap online sellers sell ONLY on price and quality is secondary. They are a one trick pony in that regard.

The 299 is now a very good product though. Their buying clout and influence as a huge customer no doubt makes the factory bend over backwards to get it right.

Oh agreed, the quality was miles apart. but the cost wasn't, especially compared to a genuine Dyson motor, never understand the way the world works.  :'(
