Got an email today, which I've responded to because I'm skint... But I've never seen this before

We have a dyson dc50 which stopped working. The beater bar turns but the motor doesn’t work. I was hoping you would be able to take a look at it for us? We live in Stokenchurch so can drop it to you.

Anyone got any ideas? Or does it just need a motor?

Ill update tomorrow either way if I get a chance to look at it

Hate these machines and now refuse to touch them.
I would say either main switch / wiring or motor failure as you suspect.

Last one i did had no head motor operation and revealed to be the wire had dropped off the head motor switch !
As well as black beater brushes gone, spine (duct assembly) split either side and hose split at bottom.
Customer refused quote.

Had another call on one last nov, diagnosed motor at fault but customer again refused quote to repair.
The only failure is not to try.

We are starting to see main motors fail now, yes.

I'm afraid the actual fix is very boring... The main motor works fine!

Got all set up for filming, ready to start a few days of investigation etc... Fired right up, the cyclone was blocked!

Still, declog, filter wash, pull all the bloody fluff from the cleanerhead and £30 madam!
