DC01/DA001 Problem - No Suction After Service
« on: February 11, 2019, 01:57:24 pm »
I would be most grateful for any assistance.

Recently serviced my Dyson Model DA001.

Cleaned it up; repaired the Sole Plate (Broken Fixing Screw Pillars) now all appears to be A OK.

Fitted a new Brushbar and Belt.

Problem is, it refuses to pick up dust and dirt!  :( No Suction at all!).

No suction at the hose wand, either???

The channel moulded into the sole plate, sits against a rubber gasket when fitted. OK I said; there ought to be suction there. Err, no...

With the bin removed, it blows strongly at the top junction. I suppose this is where the dust etc is supposed to be blown into the bin. ??

All the little valves and flaps seem OK; nothing missing, nothing
broken.

Any bright ideas, please?

Is this rubber flap intact and in the correct position?

Many thanks for your kind reply, Dyson Tech! Much appreciated.

It would seem to be: no signs of obvious damage and I pushed it a few times to make sure it would - apparently - seal OK.

I was/am a Mechanical and Electrical/Electronic engineer, in another life...

My next step when I have a few moments, is to retreat to basics and remove the motor cover and make sure the fan is OK etc.

As a simple sort of bloke, I assume if the motor is good (Replaced by Dyson under warranty years back) and rotates, then suction should result... however, where and why does it vanish? All assembled, it seems to blow from the the sole plate, not suck!! :o :o

Since I am getting pressure (But not vacuum  :)) ) from "Her Indoors" and as I love engineering puzzles...

However:-

I have had this and it was a seal in the motor cover. Just checking though have you put the filter cage back in?
Try the filter slot, if you have suction there then the problem is from there on if not the problem is immediately around the motor area.

I considered this dsam.

However, all I did, originally, was the to repair the screw pillars on the sole plate (Two had snapped off), fit a new brush bar and a belt. I didn't touch the motor wiring.

It is not actually a simple matter to reverse the rotation of a Single Phase AC Induction Motor.

I have changed quite a few, over the years, on workshop equipment and tooling: even including changing Three Phase AC motors to work on Single Phase.

1) Switch the machine on in the upright position.
2) At the bottom rear of the vacuum, open the rectangular rubber flap.

Can you feel if there's suction coming through? Also, I presume the bristles on the brushbar stick out of the soleplate, right?

The wand and hose get suction when the wand is removed from the vacuum body as you may know, just to double check
