Looking for an upright poweful vacuum under 300
« on: February 21, 2019, 10:10:48 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm totally new, so do forgive me if I do make any judgement errors.

Our trusty DC27 has started giving us issues and there isn't much suction power anymore.  I've already replaced it's motor and filters and it worked okay for a while.  But it's suction power has lost again.

I require an upright with similar or more power, ideal mainly for carpets, but the odd occasion hard floor too.

What can you recommend?

Welcome.  :tiphat:

I'd be thinking of a Sebo X7 Extra. But for the extra 40 look at the X7 Pet too.

Have a read of our vacuum guide here as well: How to Choose a Vacuum Cleaner:icon_nod:

I wouldn't touch any dyson newer than a dc25 - and suggest a Sebo.
If it was assembled it can be disassembled - if we can't repair it then it probably isn't worth repairing !

I actually recommend the Dyson light ball- Very quiet, more powerful than a DC27 at carpet cleaning, grooms carpets well, excellent on hard floors, lightweight and bagless! 5 year guarantee for a 200 machine you can;t go wrong really, that works out at 40 a year which isn't a lot for a vacuum I don't think...
Much better than a DC27 as well, overall it's a great upgrade.

I don't like using Sebos on hard floors because they don't allow you to switch the brushbar off and they push crumbs etc around whereas a Dyson excels here especially.  However, a Sebo is a very reliable machine and will last at least a decade, still. You're paying for the reliability of a Sebo whereas with a Dyson you pay for the ergonomics, ease of use, design, and user friendliness because they are supposed to be a premium vacuum as well
DC14s are tanks, just need a slightly longer motor life. Do plastic parts often break on DC14s? Nope. DC41- Sexy looking futuristic and powerful machine. Just needs a better designed cleaner head wheel and cyclone clip along with a dense metal rod in the chassis.

I completely can't understand why you guys love SEBO so much. It looks really bulky.
Maybe when you have a really huge area of carpets in your house
Besides I cannot imagine having the same bag in the vacuum cleaner for a month or more. All that bacteria staying in your cleaner, all that smell it is going to cause.
As I had a look at energy and efficiently ratings, most of them get C for dust emissions which doesn't mean good for allergy sufferers, does it?
Even their efficiency on carpets gets to D while even to G on hard floors .
I must say that I am happy with my Dyson Ball Animal 2 and wouldn't change it for any other upright, maybe Shark..
