Hi From Gloucestershire
« on: March 05, 2019, 03:42:21 pm »
Hi

TV tech by trade but things started to slow down so around 10 to 12 years ago we started to look at other items to repair and Vacuums probably kept us going especially the lovely Dysons.

We used to use TV Mag, But then went to EURAS for tips .

Hi
Tv tech here too, but mainly aerial / sat installs now, plus tv walling etc (or whatever pays the bills)

I still repair dysons, and anything else electronic...

Not on euras, but am still on tv mag forum (TMF)

Hi There.

Im not one for heights so Aerials are no go.
To be honest I prefer working on vacs, power tools etc, The TV repair trade is dying out in my area alone 4 businesses have ceased trading and thats all down to the cost of TV spares and the sheds and supermarkets churning out cheap virtually unreparable rubbish.

Same goes with vacs a Tesco cheapo comes in needs parts your nearly to the price of replacing it lol.

98% ? depends where you are i suppose

The last ten i took on i repaired, but mainly led backlight led faults.
I do these for a commercial entertainments company. very good earners too.

Funny, yesterday i was replastering a wall after a cable chasing job - next job was stripping a cooker extraction hood / venting to remove a dead mouse that had jammed the motor.

But yes a lot of unrepairable stuff out there, i generally now don't bother with vacs newer than a dc41

We used to have (20 years ago) 3 TV repair places in town + several mobile people. The last time I looked about 2 years ago there were none in a 10 mile radius.  :o

Yes mate, it's a dying trade - all the techs i know including myself have to diversify now.

Where is your location out of interest ?

There are a few around adjoining counties, but gone are the days of local trade.

Thanks for having me.....

Yes back lights leds on tvs are ultra unreliable, And yes they are a damn good earner as are software faults we see so much of now.

Getting back on to Vacs we get some real horrors come in that stink the place out usually urine, How the hell do you guys deal with that and do you tell your customers that you either cant work on it Lol because you have seen better in a skip, Or do you tell them the truth ?

I suppose the chaps are used to them. Anything that comes in for service that is nasty gets pressure washed outside though.

We generally don't repair Vax or modern Hoover machines or bottom of the market supermarket junk, so by excluding the bottom of the market stuff that is sub £100 new, it by default excludes what is likely to be the the worst of machines.

Welcome!

Regarding filthy vacuums, I just don't choose to buy anything vile. Do you know what I really hate? I HATE hair. I threw away a few Dyson brushbars because they had hair wrapped around them. I just replaced them because I had a spare laying around anyway pointlessly!

PS What vacuum(s) do you have at home? ;D
