Why are Sharks bad?
« on: March 19, 2019, 12:19:32 pm »
I've heard that Sharks are badly made and don't last long. Looking at reviews everywhere, people just love them. No surprise to me as powered lift away feature is soo impressive that I really wish I got one.

I was torn between Dyson Ball Animal 2, Miele C3 Cat&Dog and Shark DuoClean True pet..
Advised by a lady working for Dyson we got a Dyson, obviously. She was saying that Miele has a bad filtration. In fact it got B for dust emissions.

She showed us a video of Dyson and Shark vacuuming flour. Dyson's filter was completely clean and flour was in the bin while Shark's filter was completely covered in flour. Is that what makes them bad?

Using Dyson can be really annoying as it's really flimsy and easily falls while using hose. I wash my filters twice and it already really smells while vacuuming.
It also gets dusty behind the bin, which according to Dyson engineer is normal. It kinda bothers me as it was meant to be asthma and allergy friendly cleaner

Any opinions about Shark DuoClean, corded I mean? Please tell me that I've made a good decision deciding to buy a Dyson even though it is really hard to use

One of the problems with Shark is that parts supply is close to nonexistent. This means repairs out of warranty are problematical. Some non genuine stuff is dripping through now, but my no means everything.

Added to which, the engineering and build quality is not the best.

Sure, everyone likes a product when its new, and pen their reviews before it breaks down or clogs up.

The Dyson is a better engineered and designed machine, but flimsier than their predecessors and with a learning curve.

For new machines, we recommend Sebo, and we have a guide that explain why >>here<<

I had a look at Shark's website and you can get spares there like filters, brushes etc. And they're cheaper than Dyson's

I had 4 to repair over the last year, 3 required motors - 1 was just blocked.
I couldn't get motors, wasted too much time looking and enquiring so just refuse them now, saving money and time by not getting involved.

Tell customers to get back in touch with shark, and see if they live up to their fancy adverts.
The only way to fail is not to try.

Same Here Motors are not available at the moment but MV say they will be filtering in at some time.
Other than the Motor problem if that get sorted then they wont be that bad of machine.

So at this point only time will tell if motors become available at sensible prices happy days for all of us .

They are the textbook definition of cheap plastic junk that will last to the warranty period then be a game of roulette!

I have a shark, the Rotator model and it isn't too bad. I'll give it that it does do a good job. But it's plastic as hell, really flimsy, bloody loud and the filter lets everything through. Need to refurb and sell it really and get it gone.

I had another one a while back which had burnt it's motor out. I hit it with my car in the end because that's how I felt!

Shark are just very good at advertising and making things look nice! They do work well, look at the videos by IBAISAIC for the proof, but he isn't the most reliable benchmark as his don't get used that much, and when they are, he shows the state of the thing afterwards! I've used the Shark that HooverLux had and it was very good. Stuck to the floor, groomed really well, the soft roller on the front is good, but was already filthy and Hooverlux has clean carpets, and the folding handle joint was oh so creaky and wobbly, he said it was out of the box. AND VERY LOUD! Makes a Kirby seem quiet as the kirby has a low pitched roar, this thing just screams it's little plastic head off, same with mine.

Sadly Dyson aren't far behind. I've had to wash the filter on my V11 today 3 days after it turned up because the sodding thing still turns on with the bin open. Average Joe does that more than a handful of times and the thing is toast in short order!

All you can do is try one and see, they have a money back guarantee as they all do now (I get 35 days with Dyson) so you won't loose anything if you get it used alot asap to try!

I've watched many videos on YouTube and it looks like Dyson Ball Animal 2 has a better suction. It can just suck into carpets while Shark seems to gently drift on it.
So within these 35 days I can return it even if I use it?  :o

Personally Ive never had any issues with Shark or their customer service. I bought the duo clean and when the brush bar broke they sent me a brand new one next day delivery. I bought the cordless lift away in October last year as Id seen Ibasiacs video on YouTube and never had an issue with it although I'm satisfied that if I had an issue shark are more than happy to help out. I was worried that I'd need two batteries but the power it has on minimum is very good and lasts a good while off a 3hr charge.
Anything posted by me is my own personal opinion and not that of my employer.. Oh that's me well I'll arrange my own disciplinary hearing 😂

I've just been to Curry's to try them out and believe me or not, powered duo clean cleaned flour from the carpet better and quicker than Dyson Light Ball.
Oh guys, even though you're saying that it's badly engineered I guess I would prefer if over Dyson.
It's in a good price on Shark's website 199£
Do you guys know if they have a policy like Dyson where you can return it even if you use it? It doesn't say anything on their website
