Request for advice: when to replace brushbar?
« on: April 10, 2019, 11:53:21 AM »
Please: how should I decide whether I need to replace the brushbar on a DC04?
Presumably when the bristles are worn & too short, but how long should they be?
Apology  :underchair: if this has appeared before, I couldnt find it. Thank you

I have never had bristles wear out on any older dyson beater bar, if it still shows draw lines on the carpet i would leave it be. Dc50 type bars for example, with the red nylon and black carbon bristles are crap (especially the black ones)
Some of the cheap pattern beater bars will crack n explode too btw

I always pop out the beater bar bearings on any vac, clean and regrease.
The only failure is not to try.

I do a test on brush rollers it must be in the machine to check but unplug machine.

hold a straight edge over the sole plate of brush roller rotate roller by hand if the bristles dont touch the straight edge you should replace roller.

I can agree with the others above that we donít very often change the brush roll on machines such as the DC04. The originals were very hard-wearing and once you have seen a few of them youíll recognise the very rare occasions when you see one this is worn that you can replace with another good secondhand one.

Worst i have seen is where a lot of the bristles were missing.
this was due to the vac used on a bare wooden floor, there were thin gaps inbetween the floor boards, pinching and pulling the bristles out. That was an 04 and i had to explain that the clutch could be turned off manually.

The only failure is not to try.

To check the older ones I just drop them into the soldeplate off the machine so it sits as it would when fitted, I then add a little resistance to the brushroll with my hands but not too much and see if it turns itself around when pushed.

The worst ive seen is a DC07 where the bristles had gone thin and not many left on each 'section' where the bristles sit. It did however still clean so I swapped it out for one of my personal ones so the one refurbished has a good brushroll.
