Hi all
After successfully stripping down (in part), thoroughly cleaning everything and replacing filters etc for a DC16, a DC01 and a DC07 Animal, my attention is turning towards our DC15 Animal. The information on here together with the support of Mcr Vacs and advice on this forum has been superb and I would like to thank you so much.
The information regarding stripping down my DC15 Animal seems to be limited to the very thorough thread, which focuses on photos. I rather like videos however and have searched in vain for something which could help me more. That said I'm sure, with help of the thread just mentioned, I'll not have any great difficulty as this hoover is in good condition and everything works. I know the DC15 and its variants are more difficult to deal with than the ones I have just finished sorting but I have a number of questions, which hopefully someone can help me with please. These are: -
1. What is the difference between a DC15 and a DC15 Animal? I know there are other variants too but it's the difference between these 2 machines that interests me.
2. How do you replace the Post (HEPA) Filter? Please see pics 3 & 4 below - I am having difficulty in removing the cover and don't want to force anything in case I break something. Indeed, I'm bound to ask if this filter needs replacing/washing? I think I've read somewhere that a blocked Post Filter, can lead to dirt build up, it can lead to air escaping through a valve and can cover the PCB in dust - am I right with my thoughts please?
3. Please refer to pics 1 & 2 - as you can see the base plate and roller brush(es) are in good condition. However I have been unable to remove 3 of the 5 cross-head screws as they are totally rusted. I would saw a slot in them and remove them with a flat-bladed screw driver if I could, but they are sunk into the base plate. God knows why they are rusted and you may ask why I want to remove them. This is because I would like to get to the top-right small grey wheel in pic 1, focused more in pic 2. As you can see it has a "flat" on it, caused due to the fact that it is seized solid. Is it removable? Is it replaceable? Or if not, how do I unseize it? In the latter case, if I can, I might simply coat the rusted screws with rust remover / Hammerite and leave everything in place. Are the 5 screws replaceable? - they seem to be different sizes.
Many thanks again for your help and assistance
