So when my partner's sister wanted to get rid of her 07 from her garage I decided to take it.
Sadly the cleaner's in the worse condition than I thought.
Hose is ripped, the base plate is really scratched so it's probably gonna scratch hard floors, it extremely stinks and it's louder than jet plane.
My partner's telling me to bin it as it's pointless to put any money in it.
Well, for the cleaner that's got really dirty filters it still has a good suction. Cyclones are not clogged. There was only a bit of dirt.
What do you guys think? Is it worth to do anything with this machine?

So I cleaned with hot water and soap parts that could be easily dismantled. They still stink though

Although I think I've broken something already cause the cleaner doesn't want to click in the upright position. There's some resistance and I don't know where it's coming from

Oh well  It certainly wasn't right.
Managed to do it properly although it's a bit of workout

They are a noisy machine, resistance putting upright can be caused by the changeover assy valve area.
pull the handle back and pull up the changeover upwards then put the machine upright.
When fitting a new hose, use a spray of silcone lube on the long ali tube as it makes hell of a difference.
All them white scuffs will easy come off with a bit of isopropyl, or petrol on a small rag.

sole plate can be finely cleaned up re the sharp edges with a fine file and wire wool.
Sole plate locking screws are burred and require the stanley knife blade trimming the rough bits off.
Beater bar will require stripping, bearing removing and greasing.
fit a new pad post filter and pre filter if it's too far gone.
clean up and sell on whatever you can get for it.
If it's never had a motor replacement then it may not last long.
Good practical experience can be gained if you never done one before. And thats worth more than any small financial gain imo.

Make sure you either get a new internal hose or just rotate it 180 degrees so that it regains it's springy tension against the head, so it pushes the head down into the carpet

But yes, as Ryevac mentioned do all those things. A motor change is only 4 screws! Most of the parts just snap on.

The suction of a DC07 is quite powerful. Very very sophisticated machine for an early 2000s vacuum, probably the most powerful as well compared to other brands. They discontinued the Dc07 in 2009

Has the soleplate got foam seals around the grooves on the edges? If so, that would help seal in the suction but it would be harder to push as a result because the DC07 is a beast

Yeah to be fair they are a classic and suck like a skint whore.

What is it you don't like about them out of curiosity? Also do you like the DC14 since that's an improved model or hate it just as much?

God, I've replaced filters and internal hose. Was going to buy hose in the shop around the corner but it's 19£ there 
Anyway, I decided to have a go with it as it is now and I'm not sure if it's worth to do anything with it anymore.
It's so loud that I'm afraid that neighbors three houses away will come to complain at the noise.
Besides there's a part on the back that seems really lose.
It also really stinks maybe cause I need to wash cyclones but it seems really complicated

I only had a go in the bedroom, less than a minute and the air coming out of it is already really hot.

Ohhhh, so a Dc07 clutched should be fine then :P
TBH I agree, although I think they're only good if you don't get the brushbar jammed. I sold a few DC14 origins to people I know and all of them have had the belts either slip or snap frequently because of constantly getting something jammed in the brush. And then there's people who slag off Dysons (especially clutched Dysons) when they are actually really good KMT

Halcyon, don;t wash the cyclone unless it stinks. The cyclone sounds clear and that's how they are. Unless you vacuum up 1-3 cups of sand, flour or anything like that so that'll just quieten the cyclones down. It works, try it!

Sounds like a normal DC07.. It will output heat, the motor is air cooled.

These arnt designed for hard floor use, carpets only. The ones for hardfloor have a clutch to turn the brush off to prevent the brushes spraying dirt everywhere and have wheels on the soleplate so it doesnt damage any flooring.
