Hi, Am I right in thinking the dc50 ERP motor is a sealed unit and cant be serviced? ie to put new brushes in.

You dont replace brushes in Dyson motors in any event. Just replace the unit.

And why not? Ive extended the life of many a dyson motor with new brushes.

I have replaced brushes in a few older models, if the commutator looked good after a good clean that is.
I have replaced brushes in a few and they failed shortly after though, however with the labour involved on some models - i think that is the reason Stuart suggests to replace the motor, as well as a more gauranteed  lengthy repair for the customer.

i will admit that some customers in the past i didn't want to see again, so replaced the motor and get rid of them for a lengthy time.

I totally agree, Some ppl wont pay the price for a new motor tho on an old machine and are quite happy to pay less tho on a cheaper fix, had no complaints so far. Any answer to my origanal queation tho? Has anyone taken a dc50 ERP motor to bits?
