Root and Radix Cyclone Technology Names
« on: March 21, 2011, 09:10:25 pm »
Does any one know why the roots cyclone technology is called Radix cyclone technology in Australia.
We have had a few , dc07 dc14 dc08 dc15 models from there all with this name instead of the more widly known Roots .
Is it a legal name thing

Wikipedia has this opinion:

Quote
Root Cyclone in models

The Dyson Root Cyclone technology is available in all Dyson models from DC07.
DC17, DC22, and DC23 use the improved Root Cyclone & Core Separator which can also be called Radix Cyclone, Intermediary Cyclone, or Level 3 Root Cyclone Technology.

A Google of "Radix" does bring up the Australian page first, and seems to also suggest later cyclone design.

http://www.dyson.com.au/technology/radixcyclone.asp

The term does throw up mainly Australian pages though. Perhaps someone else got the term before Dyson in Oz?

Well I am a Dyson repairer in Australia but I am not sure that my answer will satisfy you.
I have always thought the idea of a "root" cyclone was a really odd name, there is nothing else here that I can think of that uses this word.
However I think the reason for that for this is that we call having sex a "root".
Well not the upper class but regular bogans for sure will say i can't wait to finish work so I can get a root!.
Unfortunately why it is called radix I have no idea other than it is not a well known word so it just sounds technical.
This is just supposition mind you I am far from a scholar just an educated guess.

:biglaugh:  I reckon that must be it Alec. I didn't know that term in Aussie slang, but for sure, no manufacturer will want their technology associated with getting laid. Especially when suction is part of that technology.  :-X

LOL so true, the connection with suction didn't even occur to me, which is so weird since everybody thinks they are the only one to tell me that my job sucks.
