Brush bar spins until in position to hoover
« on: March 14, 2020, 02:28:27 pm »
Hi. My dc08 animals brush bar spins perfectly off and on the floor until you get the pipe at the actual angle of vacuuming then it cuts out.   Have taken it apart and cleaned it and it still does this..   any ideas?  Thanks

So it is spinning but as soon as it encounters resistance on the carpet it stops?

You probably need a new head. There is a small vacuum driven turbine inside the head and it tends to crack and slip on the shaft eventually. It’s not something you can see or easily access.

As long as suction is good, and the round side valve (if fitted) is pulled out into the on position, if the roller stops when it encounters any resistance, replace the head.

I will share some advice from elsewhere on the site on buying one though:

We urge spare parts buyers to exercise great caution when buying any tool or cleaner head for these models as Dyson did a lot of playing around with different tool sockets and fittings at this time. Many otherwise seemingly identical machines can have differing tool sockets, and many people make mistakes when buying spare parts that involve a tool or tool/hose socket fitting.

hi thanks - it actually stops even if not on the floor   = held it in the air and if you tilt the head so its in the position of hoovering it stops  - weird

its nearly 20 years old so you might be right it needs a new head ..........   did pull it apart, gave good clean, the plastic moudling where the shaft holds the spinney bit that chucks the dirt up the pipe was worn away slightly so it was a bit loose

i blame my husband - he likes hoovering - i go to use it and its knackered! lol

I believe that's a Turbo nozzle, had one doing a similar thing. there's a mechanism in side that's damaged. forget exactly where because it wasn't available as I believe it's only available as a compete assembly. if you had some old heads you might be able to disassemble and replace the offending part
