A year or so ago, a viewer of my youtube channel sent me this, a wonderfully rare, special edition Hoover Purepower!
It was very complete
Dates from 1997
And has a see-through cleanerhead
It's also got a poorly motor
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksFMxqWDlyo
So let's get it apart, and we shall start by removing the cable
and the tools
And the hose
The ends of the hose pop off and unscrew nicely to aid washing the hose
and the crevice tool can be removed

Now we can remove the post motor filter
Which looks nice*
The inside of the cover wasn't too bad though
And gives us a date of 1997 for itself
The diagram on the back has survived nicely
Inside the machine looks very grim though
Moving up to the top and we can take the main handle off
Which just unscrews
Under the handle is another screw

Followed by 2 more under the bag door
This reveals the wiring
Hoover still held the royal warrant at this time
With that off, the PCB that drives it all can be slid out
The opaque cover plate screws onto the PCB and comes out with it
Screws on nicely though
This is the slider mech for the speed control

See, seethrough!
The mains switch seems to mount up top
But remove the cover and the switch is actually sideways inside the housing
This clamp releases the mains cable, which can then be removed easily
The air pipe can come off the bag full indicator sensor
And with another screw the housing for it all pulls out
To remove the wires from the housing the horrible spring slip needs to be removed
Bag door seal can come out now

Bag door time now
Which doesn't take long as there's only one latch here
DON'T
The bag holder unscrews from the back chassis
bringing with it some of the tool holder from the back which shares its screws
The bag fill spout can be unscrewed now
Which brings the rest of the tool holder with it
Nice bit of build up under here

The filters can now be removed
And that's the top end stripped! We can move onto the bottom half now
The hood unscrews
And the rubber seal pulls off
Onto the next layer, and time to take the brushroll out
The Dyson belt worked well
Brushroll stripped
Front bumper removed

Time to separate the two parts now. Flick the locking rings out
and remove them
The two halves will be apart now. I remove the brushroll seals from the bottom and top of the housings
Wheel glamor cap is popped off
And the wheel very gently popped off it's stub
The broken lock pedal was extracted
The retaining clip for the front wheels removed

The front wheels can then be pivoted up and removed
And split apart further
The height adjustment plate pops out under the wheels
And that's the bottom chassis stripped!
Time to remove the motor cover!
Which is carbon dust-tastic!
The motor can be lifted out
All rubber seals are removed
It's so filthy!

Onto the motor now!
Unplug everything
Slide the thermal cutout away
Then remove the carbon brushes, and unplug the wires and unbolt the top housing
Then tap the fancase off
Remove the fans
And we can find our utterly shagged bearing!
Remove that, and find a replacement

Then wash everything!
Clean everything else that can't be washed
Polish everything that can be polished
Then it's time to re-assemble it
Starting with the new bearings on the armature
Then fit the armature to the fancase
Fans on (the fan was washed as well)
Then the fancase goes on

Top holder can go on now over the coil once fitted
Then everything is wired up
Moving onto the machine, and the bag full air tube, spinal wire and motor housing seal is re-fitted
Then the motor fitted
The (much cleaner) motor cover can go back on
and be screwed down
Bottom chassis time
Height adjustment mechanism back on

Front wheels re-assembled
With a smear of grease to stop the wheels squawking in use
Adjuster change plate clipped in
And the wheels are fitted. Time for a new recline lock assembly
Fitted! Along with the rear wheels, which also got a smear of lubrication
Brushroll seals pushed back in

Time to re-build the brushroll
And refit it
The top half retaining rings get placed into position now
And as the top half drops down the rings should close up nicely and hold it all into place
(Fit a belt at this stage) and fit the bumper and fit the hood cover down onto the lower part
Then turn around and see the hood rubber seals behind you, so have it all apart again and fit those
Bag fill port now!
Which means the tool holders get fitted too

Bag holder and it's corresponding rear piece
Then a nice genuine bag!
Take the shiny bag door
And fit the latch to it
Fit the bag door seal
Then piece the wiring back together for the switch and associated
Refit the switch cover to the switch
Then take the even more see-through after a polish top cover

And fit it to the PCB
Then fit it all to the machine, along with the cover
Top handle now. The plastic spacer tube goes in first
Then the handle afterwards
Re-fit the post motor filter cover latch
And the cover to the machine
Then lob it all to one side whilst you wait for the postman to come...
