DC18 Motor Removal & Replacement
« on: February 06, 2020, 04:51:40 am »
My 10 year old DC18 needs a new motor. Bought a lightly used one on eBay. I do not have a service manual. Does anybody have one they can send a copy or post a download here?  :reading: Or can someone describe the procedure? Also, the brush motor works now only when the handle is lowered. When standing up the handle, the brush motor cuts off. What might be causing this? THANKS from a new member!

A tedious process to do a motor change, but not difficult, sorry it has been a few years since i have done one.
However the intermittent head motor action is probaly down to the yoke cable underneath to the head.
You have to remove the main motor to gain access to the yoke cable which needs replacing too.... but it is no longer available to buy as far as i know.
I have a customers dc18 waiting, and has been for 4 months for me to find the part.
I will see if i can find a pic of the stripdown...
The only way to fail is not to try.

Hey i found the picture, sorry it's a scruffy layout - we had just moved workshops at the time.
The small yoke cable is next to the white wire cutters on the bench.
Myself i wouldn't bother with the machine, as the changeover valve peg on the side assembly will snap eventually too.
The only way to fail is not to try.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to give it a shot as I actually have 2 of these DC18 vacs. The other one also has a bad motor so if I get lucky, I'll be able to get one working.
