DC40 Brush Bar Motor Removal
« on: April 04, 2020, 03:14:54 pm »
Hi,

can anyone help?

I've worked out that the brush bar motor on my DC40 isn't working properly and have ordered a new one, but can anyone tell me how to remove the motor from the gear assembly?

Thanks in advance.

I've removed the brush bar and stripped it down, then tested the motor on a workbench, which worked intermittently (I think it's the brushes). I'm now trying to remove the motor from the gear assembly.

Hope the image explains it better than I can.

Beko has a strip down on it, rather than me trying to explain.
Just out of interest how have you bench tested it ? (Reason i ask - it's a dc motor), if you connect it to the mains it will have a fit.
Normally on these machines the motor fails, or the yoke cable fails causing intermittent action of head brush.
I have had, and caught the motor just in time starting to fail, just replaced the motor.

That's exactly what's been happening. The motor has been turning intermittently.

I took the motor out the brush bar so there was no resistance on the motor and put the power on, it started and stopped intermittently.

New motor is on order.

That link for the break down of the machine is great, thank you. I didn't know there was a belt in there as well.

Ok
Hopefully just the motor at fault as you have diagnosed.
Other thing that causes intermittent motor action on this model, and quite common is the yoke cable.
Interested to hear how you get on.

Indeed, that is more common.

Update - stripped the vacuum down and eventually found the white wire on the yolke had been severed. Got a new one and fitted it, no problem.

Thanks ryevac for the link to dismantle it. Helped me to put it back together again and working perfectly.

As Ryevac said, it is more usually that.

Pretty poor design to be honest. It's like it was designed to get severed, so that they could sell the spare parts...

Glad you sorted it. And you now have a spare motor !  ;D

It is a crap design, but fixable until the yoke cable is no longer available.
I forgot i did a step by step procedure on this...
