Thanks to Stuart, and Parwaz, I think, I ultimately decided to go against the other half’s wishes of not wanting a bagged cleaner, and ended up acquiring a lightly abused Felix Vogue from Germany!
After giving it a damn good disinfecting and clean, removing a minor blockage (whilst curiously inspecting) from the head, it was immediately drafted into usage within the hour.
At first, the head gave pause for concern when the brush bar wouldn’t stay engaged, but after using it on the bottom stair, with it hanging in free air after coming off the edge, it eventually worked perfectly.
No further drama afterwards on the tile floor in the kitchen, nor the carpet upstairs… and the mattresses.
As a result, first impressions are that it’s definitely a decent vacuum, easily manoeuvrable, gets under the beds more than the Dyson DC33 could, and, even on setting 1, didn’t prove too hard to push/pull on what I’d consider to be medium pile carpet.
The exhaust filter is off, having been washed, and the section de-carboned… the yellow microfibre was a much blacker shade afterwards!
Once the novelty factor and honeymoon period ends, it’ll be interesting to see what my impression of it is then. You know what they say… familiarity breeds contempt.
The only slight negative I can see, is that on full extension, the shaft definitely has some flex in it, which can be a bit disconcerting.
One question, which hopefully someone can chime in with an answer to, is… what does one use on the bearing when putting the brush back or replacing with a new one?
Don’t have anything other than WD40, and was reluctant to use it. So, for now, it’s dirty, possibly a bit gritty, in need of a clean and -relub’ing.
Just thinking of another question… soft dusting brush. Sebo’s or Miele’s Sub20 – which is the better option?
Had the Dyson one, when I had the DC39 Animal, which, from memory, was just alright.
