X4 Extra motor swap - quick questions!
« on: June 12, 2020, 09:18:20 PM »
Hi,

Ok, I looked around, but can't find what I'm looking for.

I'm replacing the motor on our X4 Extra, after burning smells and the motor stuttering and being noisy. I'm pretty sure that it is the motor.

Bought the alternative (cheaper!) one, and it looks exactly like the Domel (good!). Couple of quick questions:

1. Is the motor 'handed'? looks like it could be fit in one position, or be rotated by 180 degrees (hope that makes sense!). Does it matter, and if so - are there any indicators?

2. The stupid question. I took the motor out a couple of weeks ago, and I can't exactly figure where the spade connectors fix to. I'm 95% certain it's where the red circles are in the attached image. Correct?
(if the image doesn't attach, is it the 2 small spade connectors at opposite 'corners' to the brush connectors? must be!)

They're not handed as such. There are some pointers here but I'll try and get you a close up of one with the top off in our workshop tomorrow that will shed more light.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

That's great, thanks. No need for photos, now I know that they're not 'handed'.

Am I right about the spade connectors?

Done, and in.

Fiddly little spring, on the upright bracket (next to / above the motor drive cog). Doesn't feel quite right, but it's in.

Not run yet, but a simple enough little job. Shouldn't have removed the old motor, until the new one was here.

Photo of the new motor in place, I've just got to pluck up the courage to try it now.
