Sebo height adjustment
« on: June 19, 2020, 05:56:26 pm »
Firstly, thanks to Tonsberg for a superb post, which gave me the courage to have a go at fixing the height adjustment gadget on my Sebo X4.  Now, three questions please -

What, should the full range of lift be, in mm, at the front of the machine - I got mine working, but the full movement doesn't seem to be all that great.

I suspect the brush is significantly worn - what should the bristle length be (eg as new)

Finally, I was unable to remove the upper casing of my Sebo - I undid the three main screws, but it appeared still to be held on.  What did I miss ?

Many thanks to anyone who has read this far and, especially if they can advise.

It's not always about the height of the brushes, it can be their stiffness.

If your brushroll is of an unknown age, or has white bristles, change it as a routine matter. That solves the vast majority of automatic height adjustment issues.

The lift is variable depending on what surface its on. As for getting the top off, Beko has done a strip down topic in the stickies.

Hello MVacs.  Thanks for new brushroll - certainly has increased range of auto height adjustment and reduced rolling resistance on deeper carpets.  I'm now curious about the bearing in the brushroll end cap.  If I insert a metal rod into it (where the brush shapt goes), it has some radial movement from side to side - eg like a car suspension ball joint - but it shows no interest in rotating.  It looks as if there should be a ball race in there - is there ?  - or is 'bearing' for the brushroll between the brushroll shaft and the metal inner tube of the part pressed into the end cap ?  Seems a bit inlikely.

No ball race, that's correct as you describe. They dont have a traditional bearing.

Thanks.  That's quite surprising.  Should it be oiled / greased regularly ?

Surprisingly not. If you do they often gum up. You can put a tiny bit of white silicone high temperature grease in if you want. Normal grease/WD40 etc will gum it up. Using nothing is fine. Strange but true.
