Sebo X7
« on: July 01, 2020, 05:51:18 pm »
I just couldn't say no to this when I saw it on Marketplace for £50... Yes, £50..
It looks very good. Basically new according to sellers.. Brushroll actually looks mint.
Sadly, it unbelievably stinks of dog.. That's probably why they sold it and why it was so cheap.. Like literally you can't even imagine the smell..
Anyway, I'm dying to see why it is soo highly recommend.. People on Instagram seem to be over the moon with this cleaner..

Ordered service box. Actually quite cheap, 2 filters and 8 bags for £29.. Miele should learn.. Am I the only one thinking that it's not gonna kill the smell though?
Wiped it all with antibacterial wipes but I can still smell the dog when I get closer to the vacuum..

I had a little go, all seems to be working, brushroll goes up and down. Can't imagine how people can cope with it changing the height all the time though. I tried it on my black and cream carpet and bathroom tiles. Not long, maybe about 5 mins in total as I didn't want my whole house to stink of dog.. It seemed to be doing good job on carpet but couldn't pick litter on tiles.. I was going over it few times and still didn't pick it up so I had to use the wand..
What a strange design it is.. It doesn't have any seal so the suction leaks where the wand connects with hose..

I'm just really shocked that it is soo recommend, after using it in my house..
Changed the filters and bag, put the freshener but it still stink.. And some people spread propaganda that bagless vacuums stink..  :boggleeye:

Tired vacuuming hard floor but it was going down until I could hear the brushroll scratching the floor. It actually left marks on it.. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong but it didn't want to pick up anything, no cat litter no breadcrumbs..

Worked much better on carpets.. Although we have a small round rug, deep pile.. It was hard to push at first on it, then the brushroll went up and was much easier to push.. It went down again when I was vacuuming the edges of the rug.. Pretty annoying I must say..

I was thinking that it would be easy to use the wand.. The suction pulls the hose like it does on Dysons but the hose is much shorter soo it's much more annoying. In addition it really leaks the suction at the joint between hose and wand..
To my surprise, the brushroll spins even when in upright mode..  :-\
I thought Dysons were flimsy with their hoses but this is much worse..
I think I prefer Felix's hose more than this..

No wonder that they're soo popular in hotels etc..  as it is really the only place they would be perfect.. Huge bag, very little maintenance..

Your experience with a well-worn, abused and smelly machine does not reflect the experience of most owners. Indeed, most people have their Sebo 20 years+. Most people are over the moon with them.

You clearly haven't familiarised yourself with how the self-levelling mechanism operates, or you wouldn't be complaining that it works as it should.

If your machine leaks, its faulty. Maybe why they sold it. That would explain the inadequate performance on hard floors.

That machine has been run without a bag at some point. It now wants a proper service. Antibac wipes aren't enough.

You just dont really get Sebo.

Run without a bag? Isn't there a mechanism that would stop this from happening?

Then what you said clearly shows that they're not worth the hype..
It's a fairly new machine. I don't think it is more than 6 months old.  It has very few marks on the body ... I've seen Dysons in much worse condition that were doing better job than this...
If it can't cope with a household with few dogs then they're really overrated machines..  I bet most users buy it to cope with dog hair.. If it needs "proper service" in addition to new bags and filters, then I don't have anything else to add.

Unless, like you're implicitly trying to say, I don't know how to use it..

I've tried other SEBOs and I rate them and SEBO itself very highly. This is why I am disappointed with this particular model.. I was expecting it to be a lot better.

It can be circumvented. It may have been run with dodgy aftermarket bags that leak or a split bag. Either way, it shows dirt in the bag compartment which isnt usual. So the smell has run through the machine so it needs a service. As any abused mechanical item would.

The machine is battered and abused. It isnt a Pet model so doesnt have the charcoal filter to reduce smell.

Unless, like you're implicitly trying to say, I don't know how to use it..

You misunderstand the automatic height control and are making various spurious claims like they leak - which they dont. Yours might as its maybe clogged with dog hair by the sound of it.

The fact remains is they are one of the best machines you can buy, the X7 has evolved over 20 years or so from the X1 and people who buy them love them. I sell hundreds of them without issue. You've bought one abused one for £50 that needs a service and then complain. Apples and oranges.

Some people need to do the learning curve before they get Sebo.

Parwaz7862 Also mentions in this topic that there's no seal in the wand.. We must have faulty machines then.. https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,2950.0.html

Anyway, luckily my battered and abused machine doesn't smell anymore. I soaked the hose overnight in washing up liquid. Guess it was the main cause of smell. I also put the SEBO fresheners in.

I took it to my partner's mother and to be honest I enjoyed vacuuming with it more than with Felix. It was nice and easy to push, seemed to clean well. I could vacuum under her bed cause it lays flat..

I just don't understand why they didn't give an option to turn the brushroll off  or at least turned the brusholl off in upright mode. It goes up when in upright mode but it was leaving marks on her carpet while using the wand anyway. The hose also just sucks back into the wand when I pull it out which is annoying, unless it's cause my machine is battered or faulty or maybe I just don't get SEBO..
I also vacuumed all corners and furniture and there's quite a lot in the bag.
The pre filter has gone a bit fluffy.. Is it normal or am I doing something wrong?
The bag seems to be doing good job at keeping dust inside unless it gets worse once the bag gets full.

Is this how it should be? The brushroll seems to be going all the way down.

That’s normal. I don’t use my X series machines on hard floors as the brushroll is constantly scratching away at it. In fact when the EU Vacuum Regulations came in, Sebo declared that the X series was unsuitable for hard floors, hence it gets no rating for hard floor pick-up.

I’m not aware of that. Do you have a link to Sebo saying that?

The energy label for the X4. A red X (ironic perhaps?) for hard floor pick-up. Which, if I’m not mistaken, means it is unsuitable for hard floors. (We all know that’s not true, and they will quite happily roll across a hard floor with ease, even though as stated above I choose not to use mine on hard floors, favouring the Felix with brush control instead)

Those spurious EU tests are meaningless in my opinion. Even more meaningless now we've left the EU.

Why James Dyson challenged the faulty testing methods in court.

Yes indeed- some of the so-called eco friendly vacuums that came about from this legislation have been absolutely abhorrent- they’ve done the right thing by scrapping the testing

Our new carpet upstairs is unbelievably hard to vacuum, can't understand why. We've tried Miele, Small Ball and cordless Dysons. Even Felix was a bit hard. Was manageable on low suction but it wouldn't clean it very well would it?

Anyway when I saw this on eBay at a very tempting price I couldn't say no.
Came brand new in original unopened packaging. Obviously it doesn't have a warranty but surely it shouldn't need it.

So much easier to push than any other vac, so easy that I'm actually wondering if it does any deep cleaning. I'm wondering if keeping Felix and using it at the lowest suction wouldn't work the same.

We also have laminate and vinyl flooring downstairs. It does seem to work better than the other one did in our old house, but I'm still scared of damaging the flooring. Would getting the soft bristle brushroll reduce the performance on carpets?
I'm also a bit confused as in the manual  it says that with soft brushroll the roller goes lower on hard floors and can damage the flooring. So can't win in any case then?  :underchair:
