Airblade Ab03 Help Please
« on: August 11, 2020, 10:42:44 pm »
This post is probably aimed towards Stuart but would be thankful if there's anyone that might be able to help.

I've got my hands on an AB03 that's completely dead.

There's power from the flex to the terminals inside the unit. Then there's 240v to the input terminals of the 1st PCB. I then try the live and neutral terminals to the motor pcb but nothing.

Both pcbs look like new and no obvious signs of any damage, although does the  yellow component on the 1st pcb look normal?

I see the 1st pcb can be obtained as a spare part so so I assume this is the problematic one as it's plug & play? The motor pcb looks soldered in places so again assume this one tends to be ok?

Finally, is there any indicator that the unit is on - sensors light up maybe?

Thanks for reading!

The yellow item is just a transformer and will be ok, the actual motor drive pcb has failed, and requires repair / replacing.

Stu may have a spare pcb for replacement ? not sure, i repair stu's so if he can't help then i can repair it.

I also have Ab01/03 test chassis to ensure pcb's are tested correctly after reworking.
The only way to fail is not to try.

Appreciate your reply ryevac

What makes you think the motor PCB has failed or is it experience from other ones you've repaired for Stu?

Would be very pleased to send to you for repair  8)

I can see the damage on your picture of the motor drive speed controller, this is "usually" cause of a dead unit.
It's a minor part but i usually also replace the switching ic and FSD ic at the same time.
Boards are difficult to source, especially working ones which are rare i believe, i suspect Stu if he had one spare wouldn't let it go as he uses them for his own customers units ?
I do get one in ten approx, which may have gone to far - they explode and are not possible to repair ecenomically.
Another note, is one of the Ic's is now manufacturer obsolete - so when stocks are depleted that's it... i have suffered with fake ic's in the past so only use a known established uk supplier.
The only way to fail is not to try.
