X4 extra new brush bar - but now doesn't work as well - any ideas?
« on: September 03, 2020, 10:34:11 am »
Hi All,
I picked up an X4 for £12 a couple of years ago and thanks to the help on this forum got it working (it was just blocked) and refurbished it with parts from another X4 I got for £10 (motor and board burnt out  :( )

Anyway, I got a new service pack today and I ordered a new brush bar too as the old white bristle one was probably the original one and way looking sorry for itself. I put the new brush bar on and the machine doesn't work nearly as well now, it feels like its skating across the carpet and the brush bar isn't "digging" into the pile and fluffing it up like the old brush bar did. It isn't picking up as well either. No blockages and new bag/filters ok. Brush bar is spinning ok it seems.
Do I need to do some sort of reset when I fit a new brush bar? The height adjustment LEDs aren't on much.
I'm going to fit the old brush bar back on if I can't sort it!

You will probably have to be a little more patient with it now, the height adjustment sensitivity may be different now to what you are used to. When you use it now, give it chance to properly adjust, maybe pause for a few seconds on an even area of flooring and see if the head adjusts at all, that’s what I often do, after that it’s usually better. It sounds like it’s not lowered enough yet. Usually with a new brush fitted these will drive themselves along the floor  ;)

Is it going down when reclined and going up when stood upright?

Was it a genuine new brush roll or an aftermarket one?

I put a genuine Sebo brush roll in it.

Update though - the height adjustment isn’t working, it appears to be stuck in the highest setting which is probably why it isn’t picking up very well.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I do have a spare machine I have for parts but don’t want to spend ages swapping parts over if it’s something simple I need to check.

Thanks very much.

Probably one of the magnets has come adrift. Do you know where they are? One magnet is on the swivel neck and there are two magnets on the yellow belt sensor.

Often the one on the swivel neck comes off and its usually found on the side power board. If so, glue it back in and that'll fix it.

Right, it looks like there is a magnet missing on the belt sensor. The one on the orange section is there but there is one missing from the grey section. Can’t find it anywhere unfortunately.

They never go far. Stuck to a screw or under the power board usually. If you find it, Araldite is your friend.

If not, you can swap the belt sensor from your other machine. You'll probably find the magnet when you strip it down.

No definitely can’t find it. Might have escaped while I had it apart.

Unfortunately I have found my spare machine was binned during a clear out. Grrr.

Also the little blue “appendage” on the PCB which must sense the movement of the magnets Has been mangled a bit. I’ve bent it back so hopefully it works ok - must have happened when the magnet came off.
