Miele S5261 Motor noise

(1/3) > >>

mastriv:
The motor on my trusty, now 10 year old, Miele has started making grinding noises (smelt briefly of burning rubber).

Have broken down the cleaner - tried cleaning the motor with compressed air - a little bit better but not running smoothly. The motor still powers on and turns but not evenly and is very noisy.

I could try breaking down the motor completely - could be the commutator is gone or it needs new bearings?

So two questions - (a) does anyone know of instructions on how to break down/service the motor (looks a fairly closed unit - not sure how to get the metal cowling off) (b) know of where I could find a spare motor (seems difficult as pre EU power/wattage regs).

My skill level is fairly handy (have tools & multimeter) but now experience with vacuums :-(

MOTOR PART #:MRG 742/84-42/2

MVacs:
Miele motors, like Dyson ones, are usually not of good enough quality that they are repairable. You'd normally change the motor.

You should be able to find a new or used one without too much difficulty, but new ones aren't cheap.

Much more likely that the brushes have worn down, if you open it up it will be very easy to check them. All you need is a T20 driver to remove  the top of the housing and a suitable socket to undo the nut on the fan: from memory it's 13mm. The outer metal cowling is simply tapped off around the rim, friction fit only.
Remember that the nut on these is a left handed thread: you need to hold the fan steady and turn the nut clockwise to undo it.

Hi
I'm trying to repair a Miele cylinder motor
It seems to have trashed a bearing , does anyone know where I can source replacement ones or if they are fairly generic

Cheers Craig

macman:
I think you need a 608 2RS. Those are the ones with a rubber seal each side. The 608ZZ is the same but with metal seals.
22mm outer diameter, 8mm inner, 7mm height.
Best to check that against your own motor, but it's correct for an S5000 series. They may vary on other motors possibly.
Plenty of sources available on ebay.
