Very noisy Dyson DC40
« on: October 09, 2020, 12:10:35 PM »
Good morning all. Hope someone can help me; my first post of a topic.
I have searched and can't find anything that refers to my problem.
I have a DC40 which is excellent and still picks up well but it works with a very high pitched noise which is doing our heads in!
I have tried removing the canister with cyclone and also the filter in the ball wheel and the noise is still the same. The filters are seated and sealing well and there are no blockages.
I am beginning to think that is could be the motor.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Nigel.

It could be that the motor is out of balance, (can be caused by build up of dust on the motor fans), Could be a mis-aligned or damaged seal, Could be motor bearings, or could be an air leak. Thereís no way of being able to pin point exactly where the problem lies without actually hearing it. If youíre able to record a video of it and post it online, that is the best way that you will find a solution I think!

If itís screeching, most likely motor bearings. Which means a new motor.

Hi and thanks for the replies.
I've made 4 short videos but they are too large to post on here.
I'll order a new motor from MV's - I reckon it is the bearings as you suggest. I have listened to it carefully again with the filter and canister removed.
Thanks again.
Nigel.
