Dyson V6 - Stripdown & Refurb!

I've had a fair few V6's in since taking these pictures for this thread, so hopefully I can fill in the sketchy bits now, and add a few tips and tricks as we go!
We started off with this
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOaCEQunB7I
Which is fairly standard. To do this job, you will need a set of small torx screwdrivers
First in the wash box is the crevice tool
Then the brush pulls off the combo tool
The wall dock can be dismantled a bit
Pop the spring out first
Then pull the 2 parts apart
DC Jack holder pops off the top now

If you really want to the tool lock buttons pop off too
Machine now.
Remove the bin
Then the bottom flap pops off the bin, and the flap seal can be pulled out
The filth builds up under here after a few years
This next part I never do anymore, but it is possible. Proceed with care as I've tried and failed to do it to other V6's subsequently, and you chew the plastic up if your not careful.
The wiring plug for the wand does come out, but you've got to figure out the knack as I've failed many times. There's a screw buried under the filth too
With some careful levering on the corners you can pop the clips off holding the tool port to the bin
Noting the routing of the cables, which is CRITICAL to getting this piece clipped back on again (just dont remove it!)

The grey trim running round the edge of the bin covering the cables pops off now
The 2 bin contacts just sit on the plastic
Then the whole loom pulls through and out
I couldn't work out how to remove the dirt flap so left it alone
This little seal came out
And I never do any of that anymore, the whole bin gets washed whole, wires and all. It all dries out nicely
Onto the machine
Battery out
These are dropping their original batteries like flies now
Bin seal pulls off the cyclone

I do this a different way now so the images may jump about but grab 2 small screwdrivers and use them to open the plastic C clip holding the cyclone to the machine
Pop the shroud off with a thin screwdriver
Then undo the screws holding the cyclone layers together
Pull the purple outer off
Then the black inner
Filter now, which can come out
Pop the 3 tabs off at the top and pull the sock off the case. Then put the sock bit in the washing machine on a good, hot, long wash as it may well look like this when you pull it apart

Carrying on with the cyclone, the top silver part will come off now, and you can pull the cone assembly out of the middle part
Then remove all the foam gaskets for washing
Moving on, to remove the motor on a V6, you need to get a very thin, flat object under both clips without splitting the very thin plastic. The back part will fall off then
Never needs maintenance...
The foam pops out so it can all be washed
Motor next
After undoing the screw holding the trigger in, the whole motor assembly pulls out, but not all the way
This screw deep down here needs to come out, which removes the bin contacts machine side

Can't really do much with the motor
The fancase seal comes off
But not much else. Over on the trigger, the red trigger can be popped off the housing
Then the terminals removed with the wires
The actual switching on and off on the V6 happens on the battery, the trigger pushes down on this button
This just holds wire
The plastic C clip comes out of the motor housing
Bin latch now
One tiny screw removes the cover

Unhook the spring
Remove the plastic cam
Red part snaps off
The bottom bin latch clip sits here, with a spring under it
Getting there now!
Floor head now, specifically this style

The brushroll was originally very worn, the black bristles are awful and just vanish, I doubt there's many V6's left with any black brushes on their original brushroll!
So I bought a nice used one from Mvacs
And that's what we'll be stripping down. You can replace just the brush strips if you can find them. The cog end pops off
Which lets the brushes slide out
Lots of hair will need to come out of this bit
The rear baseplate comes off with a half turn now
Then undo the 2 screws holding the rear pivoting wheel on
This will be PACKED with fluff, you want to get it all out

Some more screws on the corners takes the top cover off the head
The loom runs down this grommit then under the head. Mind it as you lift the clear cover off and remove it's seal
top and bottom
Next, undo the brushroll drive cog and remove the motor assembly from the frame. Unplug the wires first and you can not have it dangling away.
The rubber locating jacket peels off the cog housing
Then the drive cog can be pushes out of the housing which takes the belt off with it. This is where it will be full of hair, if your V6 briefly tries to spin its brushroll and it stops and cuts the machine out then back on again with no brushroll spinning you want to look here
This bearing gets trashed. The bearing from an old Dyson clutch fits perfectly though!

If you're replacing your motor with a used raw one, remove these screws here and swap the carrier over. Also clean all the dust and fluff from the motor, it'll be packed
Back to this
Undo the white piece and remove
Then rotate the pivoting part of the head until the slot lines up with the plastic stop and it'll all pull out. Feed the wires with it
This next part is fully optional too, I never do this anymore unless im swapping corroded pins...
Remove the wheels
Then the two screws holding the pivot cover on
The pivot is just the 2 air pipes going inside of each other, if yours is hard to pivot cleaning all the gunk from this bit might help
These two pieces cover the wires as they run around the top towards their plug

The wires run up the inside then around the edge to the back
Pop the plug up out of the top
Remove the pins
And we're stripped!
All the screws
All the parts washed, polished and ready to make a vacuum cleaner again!
And we start where we finished, with the wires for the floor head
Start from the top and make sure all the wires are routed correctly, and don't cross over or it'll not align somewhere

Refitting all cover parts as you go
I never touch this unless the fault is in the wiring loom. Just remove it from the main head and give it a good wipe down
Once you have the wheels on, rotate until it slots in, then rotate back and fit the white part to lock the picot to the head, making sure to run the loom wires out and slot the grommit in exactly
Run the wires underneath
And back out here
Drivetrain next, and the bearing carrier can be slotted onto the motor
New bearing fitted, once the circlip is removed the bearing near falls out

Fit the belt to the motor cog, then around the drive cog then push the whole lot home. The belt has no give in it at all (and never breaks, so if your dyson head doesn't work it wont be the belt!)
Fit the rubber cover and fit it all back to the machine. The edge of the cover has to slide into the round hole on the chassis so a drip of oil smeared around the rubber helps this alot
Refit the drive cog
Fit all the seals back to your cleaned, polished perspex
And drop it back onto the head chassis
Some screws go back to hold it all together
Then the rear wheel and cover
Rear baseplate
Then the brushroll and end cap and the floor head is refurbished and rebuilt!

Onto the machine now! Bottom bin flap back on, with it's spring
Bin release latch back on
Then the cam and spring
The cover can then be refitted
Cyclone clip can be popped in
Onto the trigger now, time to put the wiring back
And the trigger itself
One last look at the PCB, which had a squirt of brake cleaner aimed at it

Put the fancase mount back on
The bin contacts are replaced and screwed up
Then the motor refitted
Trigger
Then the foam can go back on the outer casing
And it all snaps back together
Onto the cyclone now (and again some of the images show it on the motor housing early, but it's easier to build it off the machine and snap it back on at the end.)
Refit the gaskets to the various parts, the black one up here
Then fit the rubber gasket to this part
