Panasonic MC-E42N - Stripdown & Refurb

(1/3) > >>

Howdy.

I did this a year or so ago now, for another collector. With some tenuous distant link to his childhood, we have the Panasonic MC-E42N.

Which was growing something

Electronic Speed Control

Brushing and Barring Brushroller

It was a decent little thing. But, it hides a dark secret, which we don't know about yet!

Cable unwound

The filthy vintage MK plug has no place here

Handle comes off with one screw

Then onto the bag door

beko1987:
The post motor filter slots off

Revealing filth

Bag door latch unscrews

The TOP QUALITY paper bag gets slung far away

And we can remove these 3 screws

Which makes the hose fall off

The hose unscrews and strips down nicely  from the ends

mmmmm

Onto the wiring now, and the 2 screws holding the front cover on can be removed

beko1987:
The wiring cover came off really easily

But sadly bought something else with it

It's part of the body

The whole thing was covered in some sort of greasy crap, which was/had rotted the plastics!

Removing the speed control knob involves just squeezing these tabs

and discovering this...

Removed them anyway

And we can take a look in here

The bag piston indicator stuff lifts out, note the greasy crap

which was literally everywhere

beko1987:
Whole thing didn't move at all!

Mains cable can be removed now

Then things lifted out of the way to get to the back of the switch

So we can push the switch out without the housing around it turning to powder...

Everything is sort of attached together when unplugged though...

So we need to move downhill, removing the rear wire cover as we go

And turn to the base plate

Which was flipping broken

beko1987:
I removed the glider bars

Then the air duct

And the pivot peg that holds the hood to the chassis. Sporting a pack-out bodge as these wear...

Recline lock pedal now, one screw on the end of the bar

And it lifts out

Next are these two screws which are the hood pivot on the other side

Then the hood comes off the back chassis

Let's take the motor cover off now and see what joy lurks within!
