DC08 contact head wheels removal
« on: January 07, 2021, 02:08:27 AM »
I have a contact head which came with my DC08 vacuum cleaner. Its in great condition but long hair has jammed the little wheels (casters) so that they are to tight to roll over the floor.
Does anybody know if they can be dismounted so that I can free them up and re mount them?

They are very firmly pressed on, the metal axle in between them has deep one-way ridges to ensure the wheel does not come off accidentally. Unfortunately it is quite difficult to remove these wheels. They can be prized off eventually but you risk distorting the surrounding areas of plastic. I have done it before but please take great care with it otherwise you may end up with a totally damaged nozzle that requires replacement altogether

Hi dysondestijl, I've had an attempt at pulling the contact head wheels off, you were right they are really tight and I gave up before I broke it.
From your reply it seems that the little axle stays attached to the body of the contact head. So I was wondering if a bearing puller could be used to pull the wheels off. The way it could work is that the puller would clamp onto the inside face of the wheel and the threaded bolt would push onto the outside end of the axle. What to you think? I thought I'd check with you before I find/make a puller.

Kdp, Iíve never used a bearing puller on those wheels so unfortunately I cannot comment on how easy/difficult it is so do, sorry 👍
