Some members of this forum recommend fitting filter pads to the post motor filter, these are claimed to be easier on the Dyson vacuum cleaner motors than the HEPA filters.
I would say that if anyone in the household as any allergy's a HEPA filter is recommend.
The filter pads come with a coarse side and a smooth side to the material they are made from, does anyone know which side these filters are best fitted, is coarse it side down or smooth side down ?

I always only pads, unless I have a specific reason to fit HEPA.

They go with the coarse material facing down toward the motorbucket , pad side facing up.

Dysonboy - thanks for your reply re the correct fitting of filter pads. Do you also recommend a yearly change of these pads (they are cheap to buy) hoping that that this will prolong the life of the Dyson's cleaner motor ?

One would ordinarily last the life of the motor.

RE Manchester Vacs last remark. I am surprised that they will last the life of the motor ? After two or three years even the HEPA ones can look very dirty. I have seen some very dirty pads and HEPA filters on Dyson's that still have the original motors fitted !
I would have thought changing them after two or three years use would be a good and beneficial thing to do.
