Big house, lots of kids & animals. Ideas?
« on: September 22, 2011, 08:42:35 pm »
I currently have a DC22 allergy (impulse buy) and a faithful DC07 that was a wedding present, I find together they are the best of both worlds but am getting sick of having two.  :grinn:

Here are my requirements:
4 children (one long haired)
1 long haired wife
2 long haired dogs, (long and short, short are harder to get up  :angryman:) Both dogs go on the sofa  :underchair:
1 cat that sheds constantly (need to clean up non used cat litter)
1 rabbit that leaves sawdust everywhere
2 hamsters that kick sawdust everywhere
3 flights of stairs
Two hard floored rooms
Ground floor and first floor short pile carpet
Two people carriers that need cleaned constantly
Other two floors thicker pile carpet (where the hair shedding people sleep)
Yes its a total mad house..  :'(  :))

Would prefer an upright but open to suggestions.
Has to be reasonably cheap, probably getting reconditioned it makes the most sense.

Help is much appreciated, thanks  :tiphat:

A decent DC07, as you have, should make a decent job of that lot.

But that does sound like a lot of hammer. For me, I would consider a DC33.

Was considering a reconditioned DC14, DC15 or DC25.. I like the DC14, my friend has one and the design seems so much better than a DC07

The DC33 is like an improved DC14. DC14's are fine too.

Personally, I wouldn't choose a DC25 for that application, the canister is too small, and in my opinion, most non-balls are more sturdily built. The exception being the DC15, they are better built IMO, but they are heavy.

Weight isn't a problem in my house, as I'm the only user. Think I'll go for a DC14 origin with the golden coppery coloured cyclone unit or a tool kit one.. My preferences just on colour really  :reading:

Will probably buy from you when I choose but was looking at this:

That one is cheap because it is an "origin", which means non-clutched for carpeted homes only. Bottom of the range. You need one with a clutch for the application you described really. That will scratch your hard floors as there are no roller wheels on the sole plates of origins.

Yes, however I only have 2 uncarpeted rooms and even now with the DC07 all floors I leave the brushbar on and mostly use the wand on the hard floors.. hmm  :grinn:
