A decent DC07, as you have, should make a decent job of that lot. But that does sound like a lot of hammer. For me, I would consider a DC33.
The DC33 is like an improved DC14. DC14's are fine too. Personally, I wouldn't choose a DC25 for that application, the canister is too small, and in my opinion, most non-balls are more sturdily built. The exception being the DC15, they are better built IMO, but they are heavy.

Bottom of the range. You need one with a clutch for the application you described really. That will scratch your hard floors as there are no roller wheels on the sole plates of origins.
