This is getting on a bit now so needs writing up! This is a Dyson DC54 Cinetic vacuum. The zero filters cylinder machine Dyson did before realising it wasnt a great idea... This one came from out Head of Finance Diana at the office. Note here that it was NEVER used for DIY, she would never let that happen, the tradesmen should bring their own...

This is how it went from her car to mine

And once sorted out we have this!

The before video showed all was not well on the turbo tool front

Which was quickly solved

Let's knock the tools apart first, this is going to get involved...

ila_rendered

Hose end was easy

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Main floor head now

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Remove the brushroll

The drive cog end pops off the brushroll and the strips can be slid out on this style (same as the V6)

ila_rendered

Unscrew the front baseplate

ila_rendered

And remove the wheels

ila_rendered

The back baseplate unscrews and unclips at the middle, a screwdriver to nudge it from behind helps

ila_rendered

The little felt strip had long gone

ila_rendered

To remove the clear window is fairly easy, prise the silver ends off it and it pops off nicely

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

The rear baseplate can come off now

ila_rendered

To remove the side cover, there's a screw on the inside

Then it unclips

ila_rendered

The brushroll drive cog can be removed now

ila_rendered

The big cog is screwed in at the top with 2 tiny screws. Remove those

ila_rendered

And it comes away, allowing the belt to be removed

ila_rendered

Next to come out is the drive assembly, which isn't screwed onto anything now

ila_rendered

The rubber end is hooked around the intake grill, so remove that first

ila_rendered

Then wriggle the drive unit out

ila_rendered

The unit is two halves, 2 screws hold them together

ila_rendered

The rubber seal comes off the end

ila_rendered

And has a clear plastic end brace clipped to it

ila_rendered

The top air deflector prises gently off the main turbine

ila_rendered

Allowing access to spray some brake cleaner at it all to tidy it up and a fresh drop of oil as that's as far as she comes!

ila_rendered

Meaning we can move onto the wheels and remove the screw and note the locking washer. I did think the wheels were a tad slow...

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Both sides

ila_rendered

The pivoting assembly on this head is held together with 2 screws

ila_rendered

Release the hose (push fit) and it comes away

ila_rendered

The other end pulls out too

ila_rendered

With the hose out of the way the main wheel axle's push out and also release the top cover for the whole thing

ila_rendered

Floor head done. Onto something REALLY difficult now

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

That exhausting task done I did have a poke about on the wand... The red latch comes off easily enough

ila_rendered

The top cover comes up too

ila_rendered

But nothing else happened. Not sure if anyone has found a way but TBH these wands never break, what they do is go all worn and baggy and loose at the ends instead  :censored:

Anyway, onto the actual machine itself I think

Pop the hood

ila_rendered

And remove the bin

ila_rendered

Cross head screw time, remove the carrying plate for the bin

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Pop the hose off the machine

ila_rendered

Undo 2 small screws at the very end of the hose and the hose connector and hose comes away

ila_rendered

Under the hose connector are 2 more screws

ila_rendered

Remove the circlip from the pivot, and the two sides seperate and come away from the front of the cleaner

ila_rendered

Next, underneath and undo these 4 screws

As well as the triangle, the bin inlet port will come away now

ila_rendered

Working on the triangle now, remove these two screws holding the front wheels together

ila_rendered

The pivoting bar is keyed so needs the correct rotation to align but when it does it all comes apart

ila_rendered

Back to undoing many screws, all of them now.

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Onto the machine now. With the bin empty bit popped, lever out the two tabs either side so the thing really flips open. Fetch the spring before it vanishes and be careful as that's a black hole to the motor fan now, and if your fetching the motor out anyway then no worries, otherwise it will RUIN your day to drop something in there.

ila_rendered

Cos this grille wont save you now

ila_rendered

Roll the weeble over and undo the wheel screws

Next, undo the screws holding the housing shell together. Their top and bottom, front and back. DO it upside down and lift the bottom from the everything else upwards

ila_rendered

This is the exhaust diffuser

ila_rendered

It just slides out

ila_rendered

Remove these two screws from the top

ila_rendered

Time to start on the top. This whole era of ball cylinders has these clips. Do not be shy or afraid. Jam a decent small screwdriver in, going right under and pop them down to release the post motor filter

ila_rendered

Then being careful of the switches and flex it should fall out fairly easily as one big unobtainable unit

ila_rendered

The post motor filters are insanely soft on these and if you're working with a DIY killed machine then you might be out of luck... I'd ask Mvacs how much a new filter like this is but I bet I wouldn't like the answer. Do not touch it AT ALL! It's literally tissue paper

ila_rendered

This is a shot of the wiring and how it runs. The motor unplugs from it's switch and neutral connection

ila_rendered

And the whole filter/cord reel assembly stays whole. Airline and brush it off if needed, I don't actually know how to seperate these...

The motor is fair game though! Pop the 3 tabs

ila_rendered

The motor sits in here loose. 3 rubber pegs secure it around the edge. Fish those out and don't loose them

ila_rendered

Motor looks good

ila_rendered

And despite the questionable condition of the cyclone has very clean fans.

ila_rendered

So no need to remove the fan for washing. Back to the outer shell. The top cyclone clamp unclips from these two points under here

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

The rubber seal does come off on this one, but I have known it be bonded on some...

ila_rendered

That is the main machine done. Writing this nearly 2 years after actually doing this it is striking how clean the motor housing etc is. Here on in does get very grim but it didn't go much further...

ila_rendered

Onto the bin! Open the bottom flap and look inside

This machine still has it's shroud scraper!

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Probably never been removed!

ila_rendered

The bin release rod does come off but I wouldn't recommend it as it's fragile as heck...

The seals can come off the bottom flap

ila_rendered

Next, pop the clips holding the shroud off VERY FRICKING GENTLY

ila_rendered

Then gingerly slide the shroud off being very careful as once not clipped onto the cyclone it has zero structual rigidity at all

ila_rendered

Bin top seal off

ila_rendered

Then undo the first of MANY MANY small screws around the outer edge

ila_rendered

This slips the outer part from the inner. Layer 1 of about 9...

Next, and this is fun... Go digging for the next round of screws all around the middle perimeter!

ila_rendered

Yes it's a filthy task.

ila_rendered

Gets no better

ila_rendered

The first layer of self cleaning (remember, this exact tech https://www.ispot.tv/ad/7ahD/dyson-cinetic-suction )comes off the cone edge

ila_rendered

Round 3 of screws, this time buried quite deep...

ila_rendered

This splits the midframe

ila_rendered

This bit is fun. These all started to fall out, flipping loads of them! Their tiny diverter things, each with a small air passage to fire airflow somewhere. All clogged... and VERY sharp

ila_rendered

We come to our first foam gasket now

ila_rendered

Time for the middle section

ila_rendered

Next layer of screws

ila_rendered

There's an outer gasket too

ila_rendered

The middle part splits in two at the centre, and the rubber tips come out too

ila_rendered

As do all the ones inside the midframe

ila_rendered

Next lift this level off

ila_rendered

And we find yet another layer of screws!

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Be gentle with these foam gaskets, tear it once and you'll be OK but they don't take much...

ila_rendered

Objectively it's a work of art TBH, knock Dyson all you want but you don't see anyone else doing this level of detail! The whole no filters thing may be dead in their eyes but it was a good crack at it!

Just keep lifting things off

ila_rendered

Lifting the gaskets

ila_rendered

And finally hark back to a DC08 and remove the top airflow cage from the top shell

ila_rendered

The bin handle can be removed

ila_rendered

The top seal thing that makes up for there not being a filter but the machine having to connect to the vacuum in a filter-like way is removed, along with its spring

ila_rendered

And with that, it is apart, and the wash box is full, mainly with flipping cyclone!

ila_rendered

Everything was washed and polished and laid out

ila_rendered

And the top locating hole went back onto the top of the cyclone housing

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

The first of the air ducts can go in now

ila_rendered

And the first layer of holes and gaskets

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Refit the top handle now before you forget and then can't

ila_rendered

Line everything up

Screw the midframe to the top shell

ila_rendered

Looks a bit cleaner now

ila_rendered

Place the midframe outer over and screw it into place

ila_rendered

Build and rubber up your cones

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered
ila_rendered

More Gasketing

ila_rendered

Place the black inner gasket on
