MY DC25 Animal will not provide suction to the hose, suction starts and then cuts out after a few seconds. Sounds like a check valve kicks in and stops suction to the hose

The machine has a blockage somewhere.
Have you checked your washable filter? That has to be the first question.

yes, I have even removed the washable filter and ran the vac w/ same reults
I checked the filter in the ball and cleaned out the canister
It didn't come with good info on tracing back blockage thst may cause this

Take off the hose indicated in the photo below:
It may well be blocked. That is the next most likely culprit.

My apologies - ignore the post above - I re-read the initial post wrong. Your problem is with the hose suction. Duh!
Remove the cyclone unit. When you release the hose, a valve is operated by a pivoting clear plastic assembly behind the cyclone. Does that appear to be "switching" the suction over? It should click home and operate the valve when you push the wand back into the handle and vice versa.
