DC14 hasn't died after 4 years of torture!
« on: October 14, 2011, 09:57:21 pm »
My wife's mum runs a 19 bedroom B&B with 12 static caravans a park around the main building and has 3 teenage children and 11, yes 11 cats. I mentioned to her (as I basically live in her house lol) that I had a Dyson and she said hers wasn't working too well so I offered to have a look and it had been tortured!

The filter hadn't been cleaned since new, she's one of those people who didn't know it had a filter, the wand had clumped up dirt and water in because she went over a puddle :'(, the brushroll was clogged with dust and hair and the cyclone was totally blocked yet it still picked up better than my old electrolux and my bagged panasonic with a new bag in and she was still using it 4+ times a day! I was astonished that the motor hadn't died as the post-motor filter was full of dust and hair!

It was beyond words?! Any torture dyson experiences you've seen?

she's one of those people who didn't know it had a filter,

That makes her like most people then.  ;D

I had a DC08 origin I used for plaster and sawdust, then it was left outside in the garden in the snow by some Tenants I think, and the poor thing, I took it home, switched it on and it still worked

Many times I've been amazed how the hell the things pass the initial 15 minute test before I'm happy to recon them and yet I get really clean machines (usually DC14's funnily enough) with blown motors and absolutely trashed HEPAs. I think it's probably due to the improved suction with the 14's cyclone over the 07's and 04's.
Remember the YDK motor was originally for an 04 so maybe the improved suction in 07's and 14's is the reason.

Or am I talking borrux!

The YDK in the 04 differs in power to that in the 14 SW. Yes it fits, but the result is asthmatic.
