Parts to convert DC14 from 110v to 220v
« on: December 11, 2013, 12:39:00 am »
I have a DC14 back in the US, that I'd like to use here in Australia. I searched the forum, it looks like I'll need a new motor (YDK I think?), some rubber mount, various filters, etc. I didn't see a breakdown as to exactly which parts (i.e. motor #123, mount #765, filter #234, filter #987).

It'd be great if there was a how-to published, but I think I could muddle my way through it.

Also, I need a new belt, but don't remember what kind (searching parts lists shows that there's a clutch and non-clutch model...I have no idea what mine is, and can't check the vacuum in person for another four months). Is there another way to tell, or perhaps it's motor dependent (i.e. whatever motor I buy to convert to 220v will determine if it's clutch or non-clutch)? Bought it in June 2007 as a refurb from Woot, if that helps any.

Thanks!

I believe all American machines are clutched.

So the main thing you will need for a conversion is this motor, and if a Panasonic motor is in there now, you will need these rubbers.

I would change the filters as a matter of routine, which is this one, and for the post motor filter, you have a choice between this one or this one.

To do the job you also need one of these if you haven't one already.

I am not aware of a "how to" published yet for the DC14, but it is essentially the same as a DC07, and there is a guide to do that here.

So, will the old filters still fit? I thought I'd read that one was dependent on the motor, might have misread. I have two of the washable filters already, if I can keep using them that'd be great.

Thanks for the info. I plan on having the parts shipped to me in Australia. I'll disassemble the Dyson in the US just before I come back here (no motor = lower luggage weight), and put in the new motor here. Carpets could really use a Dyson right about now (been trying to get by with $50 vacuums, one spat fire and the other is slowly disintegrating).
