Miele Patern motors problem
« on: October 13, 2021, 02:56:27 pm »
Hi all

Has anyone else had this problem with the cheaper Miele pattern  motors that are available now.
After fitting them switch on and the motor pulses fast slow as if it’s being switched on then switched back on every second.
I’ve had this with 2 different pattern model Miele motors one from EBay the second from Maddocks.
The first one I fitted to an older machine with rotary pot speed control I got around that by tweaking the pot until it run smooth and speed could be varied with no problem.

The second machine was a C3 Electronic speed control so no adjustment could be made I couldnt get around it had to return the motor to Maddocks
Has anyone else had this or by some miracle did I have 2 Friday afternoon motors. :'(

I know one of the main after-market parts manufacturers tried for over a year to get those motors right and in the end, I think they gave up. I didn't know anyone else was doing them. We always say it's an uneconomical repair when one of those comes in with a failed motor. Better to replace it with a Sebo cylinder and get a 5-year guarantee.

Hi MV
Thanks for changing my name TV man to this name.

It’s such a shame that there isn’t a decent replacement motors for these machines at a sensible price so they don’t end up in land fill. They keep banging on about recycling and repair yet manufacturers appear to ignore this and make spares like original Miele motors way over priced for us repairers to pass ridiculous charges on to customers.

The only up shot to this is when you get a duff Miele vac, you can strip for spares and most used Miele spares do sell pretty well on eBay, so you shouldn’t find that anything goes to waste. New Miele spares are ridiculously expensive so there’s always a market for used spares.

I had a brand new motor from q-know-who with no connection between one of the coil wires and a terminal... Not something like that is it?

It is a pain though. Thankfully from scrapping many mieles with alright motors but no tools/smashed up I've got a nice stash of good used motors 👍 It's like gold dust. One is in my Henry 160 mind...

No Beko
Nothing like that I think it’s to do with wattage and speed control these patern motors can’t be the wattage they claim to be and the speed control isn't capable of working with these motors correctly at least that’s my theory.
Going to you using Miele motor in to Henry , Years ago I fitted a Dc07 motor in to a Miele lots of Debour glue and and cutting the end casing off the original Miele motor so It would stay in place with the two locating legs at the rear it run for a while then started to fail again im certain the machine died because of the speed control and wattage of motor being used.
I love Miele vacs to work on but there motors are a strange breed .

Is anyone else confused by which models these motors will actually work with? Some sellers simply say 'compatible with 1600W Miele motors S8000/C3 series that match the dimensions quoted'. Others state that the motor must have s/n 7890581.
I've recently had in an older S8310 with a '1900W max 2200W' motor, and a newer C3 SGDF3 with an 890W motor, both with blocked fans. I removed the PCB's to clean them, and both were the same: EDW8303, s/n 07781593. This PCB is listed (new) on one site as suitable for all S8000 and C3 models. So, if the same speed control module works with all the various S8000 series and C3 series motors of various voltages, then in theory the after-market motor should also do so?

Compatability is one of the issues Q had when they first brought some prototypes in. They sent them out to a few folks to test and some were blowing up, blowing PCBs etc. Nobody could quite figure out what they worked with and what they didnt.

The problem with most of the after-market parts industry is they don't know one end of a machine from the other. They all steal each other's text too.

Then, given the compatibility issues encountered, I'm rather wondering why these were ever released into the market by the major wholesalers?

To look on the bright side, it takes considerable abuse to wreck one of these motors. Both the ones i've just repaired had motor chambers and fans full of  gunk due to the bags not being fully located into the bag holder: they should click in, not just push home.  Despite this, after cleaning the fan, removing the motor bucket top and blowing out the motor, checking the brushes and cleaning the comm, they both ran well when rebuilt.
The achilles heel is the TOC: if that gets full of dust, it overheats and blows the leg off the triac. This can often be repaired with a blob of solder, but sometimes the TOC needs replacing. The only source for these is a scrap machine or one on eBay broken for parts.

With one of them in particular, let's say the vision has changed and quality control isn't what it once was.
