Author Topic: DC41 Brush not rotating (Read 2346 times)

Hi All, the brush on my DC41 does not spin. The motor works fine and has full suction. I dismantled the head and cleaned the brushes as per the Dyson video, and took the cover off the motor. When I rotated the brushes, the motor armature turns, indicating the drive belt is intact. The problem seems to be one or both of the belt pulleys are loose on their shafts, so there is enough friction to turn the armature from the brush, where there is little or no resistance, but not enough to overcome the much greater resistance for the armature to turn the brush. The only relevant spare part listed is the drive belt, athough it is out of stock. Has anyone else had this problem and, if s0, how did they solve it. The only other solution is a complete cleaning head at £69.99. Thanks, Housecleaner

You need to check (or have someone check) that you are getting a DC feed from the machine. Dony buy a head unless you know that. If there is a feed of 300vDC+, then buy a head. If there's no feed, it needs inspecting and repairing.

I have a similar issue. Dc41 animal, brush doesn't rotate. I have checked the switch button as it has been replace on warranty, checked that I get a 320V DC with my multimeter. I have also removed the brush motor cover to verify that I can see the same voltage on the cables going to the motor. Convinced that the issue was the brush head itself, I have purchased a new one but it still doesn't work.
Any tips on what I should/could check next? Thank you in advance.

If you've got voltage but a new head doesn't run I'd suggest reading this topic. It may be your loom isn't broken enough yet not to pass voltage but broken enough it cant pass enough load to run the head.

Thanks for that. I am not sure I am confident enough to strip it down and replace the loom on my own! My wife has told me that it was bad smelling (like plastic burnt) when this happened.
Would the broken Loom cause a short and generate a bad smell? Thanks again

IN MY EXPERIENCE, THE PROBLEM IS USUALLY EITHER
1 THE WIRING LOOM.
2 THE BRUSHBAR MOTOR.

1 As mentioned previously, check for a voltage of 300 + DC volts. This is checked on the connector after first removing the brushbar.
If there is voltage there. Then replacement of the brushbar is required.

I have the new brushbar and I have 318/320V DC at the brushbar connector. But when it is attached, it doesn't rotate. I will try to the Loom but I am not that confident in dismantlomg that! (even worse putting it back together!)
