Panasonic vs. YDK motors

(1/1)

Craigr64:
I have a DC07 upright that I think I need to replace the motor on. How do you tell if you need the Panasonic or the YDK motor without taking the entire unit apart? The symptom that I am having is that it cuts off after about 5-10 minutes of use and will start back up once it's "cooled off" There is no smell of overheating just the stopping of the motor. Is this a motor issue and which motor would I order? I am in the US.

dysondestijl:
Have you thoroughly checked for blockages or replaced both sets of filters recently?
If you have, and the problem still persists, the thermal cut out on your motor may be faulty.
Over here in the U.K they are very common and it’s worthwhile removing the motor and replacing the cut out as they are still popular machines. I’m not sure about availability in the US, however

Craigr64:
Is there an easy way to determine which motor I have in the machine?

Dysonboy:
same motor. Panasonic make YDK style motors.

macman:
You are going to have to open it anyway, so why not do so and then you will know what you need?
Here in the UK, 95% of them are YDK motors, but it may be different in the US because they will all be 120V.
