DC07 Animal two problems
« on: January 05, 2022, 10:17:39 pm »
Hi fellow Dyson (and DC07) lovers!

My DC07 animal (about 20 years old now) has been through a lot.  I had to replace the canister handle b/c it broke and found out the hard way about sliding the rod into the small hole before screwing the top back on… :p

But now I’m having 2 problems out of nowhere and would love some help:

1) The cyclone assembly release catch isn’t working and I can’t get the canister off the vacuum.  When I look I can see a gap at the bottom so it seems like maybe it’s not seated properly and that’s what’s causing the issue?  But I’m not sure how to fix it/get it to release…any ideas?

2) The release to tilt the vacuum back is stuck.  I found a video on how to manually do it flipping the vacuum over and pulling the black catch out and I can get it to tilt back that way-and I tried greasing the part where it is supposed to slide but no luck.  Any ideas on how to fix that longer term…?

Thank in advance for any help!  Cheers and Happy New Year!

Try pushing down hard on the canister and releasing it while doing so.

It sounds like this machine has had a fall, perhaps down the stairs or similar causing both problems. The base needs stripping down to fix the black slider, and when doing so you may find something else out of kilter causing upward pressure on the cyclone preventing it from releasing. Possibly post motor filter cover has come adrift.

Did you by any chance replace the cyclone handle with one of the generic plain dark grey handles?
