DC05 "Vacuum Extension Tube Release Catch"
« on: October 26, 2011, 10:46:28 am »
Hi - I have usually just bought spare parts from Dyson, but baulked at buying a whole new Motorhead floor tool @ £49 !

All that is broken is the wee catch that holds it to the tube.

I found this site http://www.*Unapproved Link*/parts/vacuum-cleaners/dyson/dc05-motorhead/p/1086/716/5/420624?ms=902606-01 that sells parts ... and at £2.99, this is a whole lot more attractive !

However ... how the heck do I get into the floor tool, to fit the part, if I buy it ?

Help !

Richard in Edinburgh

Hi Richard. Welcome to the site.  :tiphat:

Most of the heads come apart with a selection of Torx screws. The DC05 Motorhead one is more complex as it has wiring in it though.

Whichever site you quoted is on our site filter for some reason. Looking at the part number 902606-01 in the URL, it is this part?

They come out at about £1.75 plus a little for the card fee and P&P. About £4 all in I guess.

That's the one !

It was eSpares.

I got a general reply from their site, saying "Unfortunately eSpares cannot offer any advice on technical problems or faults with your appliance directly and we recommend you contact a qualified service engineer to assist you further. Please take a look at our Advice Centre on the eSpares Website if you require guidance on fitting spares and other issues"

For future reference, we can beat eSpares on any price.  ;)

Did you find the Torx screws on the unit?

Cheers - that's good.

Nope !

Can't see any screws of any sort ! The housing around that catch looks as if it might slide out somehow.

Perplexed ...

Its the lavender and clear one isn't it? I think we have some of those heads, I'll have a look at one this afternoon and remind myself how they come apart.

I'd call it lavender and grey ...

Thanks for doing this ...

I thought I had one but I haven't - we sold it a few weeks ago. I would need to look at one to remind myself.

I'll PM Alec from Oz and Gareth from SA for you, one of those guys will know.

Take the back wheels of and you will find the screws, However it depends on whether you have the new or old unit as to whether you can replace that latch with ease. on one of them its a real bastard to get into were that latch sits . its put together in such a way that when you remove the cover you damage it  :'(

OK that's great I can get the wheels off and the grey cover of the floor unit - but there's still no obvious way to get into the housing that contains the release catch - is this where you're meaning the only way to access it is to damage it ?

Cracked it - as in fixed, not broke it!!

Woop !

Gentle levering by a thin screwdriver of the collar the release button sits in, and it comes apart. Slightly tricky to kelp the part and spring in place when putting it back together, but it's working great!

Thanks for all your help and patience!
