Dyson DC28C ErP Electrical discontinuity within cable retractor assembly

I've received a 7 year old DC28C ErP which, I'm told, has been heavily, but carefully, used throughout its life.
However, this latter came to a sudden end when power was lost abruptly, without warning or unusual noise of any kind, while vacuuming.
I stripped it down and can report that the motor is fine as is the fuse in the plug, the connections within the plug itself as well as the live wire power switch within the body of the vacuum.
However, there is a lack of continuity in the live wire between the plug and where it clips into the motor connector.
The neutral wire is fine in this regard.
As there is no visible damage to the grey cable nor to the black and white leads emerging from the Cable Retractor Assembly (see photo) to the motor, I conclude that there must be a loose connection or damaged cable within the Cable Retractor Assembly.
But therein lies the problem.
How does one gain access to the electrical connections within this formidable device?
I've found this video that repairs a similar problem but on a different machine but it hasn't helped me.

Can anybody offer advice?

We've always found it better to replace the cable rewind unit as a full part. They are an absolute pain to strip down and rebuild.

That photo above isn't a DC28c though, although the cable rewind photo looks to be. Its the same rewind as the DC39 FYI.

Yes, I could purchase the Cable Retractor assembly.
But why spend €80 (incl. P&P) when I can get the vacuum working cost-free by by-passing the cable rewind altogether and connecting the cable directly to the motor (through the on-off switch)?
Nevertheless, if there were a video or written instructions on how to access the electrical connectors within the Cable Retractor assembly, I'd give it a go despite the pain you refer to.

And you consider that the photo in my first post is not a DC28C?
Well, I'll be blowed!
It looks identical to the machine I'm attempting to repair which latter is clearly marked DC28C ErP in its nether regions.
Perhaps it'd be more recognisable if presented without some of the accessories.
