X4 refurb - couple of small issues - advice appreciated
« on: March 10, 2022, 02:02:09 pm »
So, I unpacked my new X4 refurb this morning, assembled, and powered on to give it a go on my living room carpet (Wool, medium pile).  After about the first 20 seconds or so, the machine switched itself off and I got the 'bag full' and 'check brush' lights came on together, blinking at a medium speed. Checked all the pipes, brush bar, the little dirt trap underneath and filters/bag. All looks good. Each time I switched it back on, the brushes spun for about 2 seconds and it switches off again with the same issue. Following the video posted by mvacs about taking the cover off and adjusting the little screw (Sensitivity adjustment for suction?), I attached the body and powered up with the hose attached with my thumb over the end, and the machine came back to life fully (This was before making any adjustments). Did I miss something here ?

Second, when I took the cover off, there appears to be a small piece of grey foam insulation (It sits just behind the white square filter but on the inside of the cover.  This grey foam is torn in two and has obviously got caught at some point.  Is this anything to be concerned about whilst running the machine ?  I've taken it out for now in case it got sucked in somewhere it shouldn't.

Thanks,

Steve.

Thats not adjustment or blockage if its two lights. If it's still doing it, it may be a power board fault. Reply your confirmation email and we'll have the head unit back at our expense, fix it, and have it back out the same day.

Edit: Another thought, if it's OK on other surfaces, and it's a wool loop carpet, you need a soft brushroll.

Well it seems to be ok at the moment following that initial blip.

I had it outside yesterday, with the long hose extension and several attachments, giving the inside of my car a good clean and it worked flawlessly and did a very nice job. That little triangular shaped brush that comes with it was perfect for the car's carpets  ;)

So at this time, I'll not arrange any return, and see how it holds up.

On deeper carpet, get in the habit of standing it up and letting it rise before you turn it off. People tend to turn them off while they are reclined and then stand them up. This means the head is still lowered when it's switched off. So when you turn it back on, the brush roll feels too much resistance at start, and on deeper carpet the head being low at start can make it think it's blocked momentarily so you get the fault you describe.

If it's generally OK it will probably be fine. If there was a board fault it would do it all the time.

Thanks for that info.  I did spot that roller bar movement afterwards and have started to do exactly what you suggest; giving it a few seconds both when powering on and also in the upright position just before I switch it off.

I think, fingers crossed, we have this issue resolved now  ;)

Thanks again for the support.

Well it seems I spoke too soon. I switched it on this morning and it is doing exactly the same thing again; brushes spin for a couple of seconds then two flashing LED's.

What is the process for arranging its return to be looked at ?

Thanks,

Steve
